The State of Hawai'i is hiring Environmental Health Specialists III and IV for positions located in Oahu. The roles involve ensuring compliance with health and environmental laws, inspecting facilities, and resolving public complaints. Salaries range from $4,858 to $6,399 per month, depending on the level and qualifications.

Recruitment Number 23-0001The immediate vacancies are located in Ewa, Waipahu to Aiea and Halawa to Kalihi and Downtown, Oahu Employment Only. Some positions may be Temporary.Level III - $4,858 to $5,918 per month (SR-20, Step D to I)Level IV - $5,258 to $6,399 per month (SR-22, Step D to I)Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.NOTE: Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months. Once you become a member of the civil service, you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Environmental Health Specialist (EHS) positions perform professional work involving the protection and promotion of public health and the environment by ensuring compliance with Federal and State laws, rules and regulations related to the elimination and/or prevention of environmental health, environmental impact, and occupational health hazards.The EHS Level lII position reflects performance of independent work where assignments are of a technical nature and moderate difficulty, with limited deviation from established standards. Problems usually involve consideration of a limited number of factors which are readily detected and controlled, and can be resolved by direct application of specific standards. Work activities typically involve inspecting facilities, operations, activities and/or equipment; investigating and resolving complaints from the public; analyzing and evaluating data and recommending action; and/or conducting informational and educational outreach activities to ensure compliance with pertinent environmental/occupational health laws, rules and regulations; and performing other related duties as assigned. Work assignments of more technical difficulty are performed in assistance to or under guidance of a higher level specialistThe EHS Level IV reflects responsibility for complex to highly complex work involving interpreting/evaluating considerable or specialized technical data and/or a variety of duties involving diverse and complex technical problems; and considerable decision making and use of judgment. Incumbents are expected to resolve most of the conflicts that arise under general supervision of a higher level specialist or program supervisor; and performs other related duties as assigned.
