Environmental Health Specialist II (Air Quality Enforcement and Compliance)

The City of Albuquerque is hiring an Environmental Health Specialist II to inspect and enforce health codes and regulations related to air quality. Responsibilities include conducting facility inspections, operating technical equipment, interpreting data, and disseminating health information to reduce public exposure to environmental hazards. About the position

The position involves inspecting, monitoring, and enforcing established health codes, regulations, and ordinances within the assigned area of responsibility. The role requires conducting inspections of assigned facilities to ensure code and regulatory conformance, operating technical equipment, interpreting collected data, and identifying new and unusual situations based on professional knowledge and scientific background. The individual will also disseminate environmental health information to industry, the general public, and other agencies, aiming to reduce the risk and severity of public exposure to environmental health hazards through surveillance and intervention. Additionally, the position entails performing a variety of professional and technical tasks in support of the assigned division.

Responsibilities
• Inspect and monitor assigned facilities for compliance with health codes and regulations.

• Conduct inspections and enforce ordinances, codes, or regulations.

• Identify and evaluate new and unusual situations based on professional knowledge.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, mathematics, geology, ecology, biology, or public health.

• Four years of experience monitoring and enforcing ordinances, codes, or regulations.

• Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or ability to obtain by date of hire.

• Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six months from date of hire.
,
• Completion of OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training within six months from date of hire.

• Experience in monitoring and enforcing environmental ordinances, codes, or regulations.
