Environmental Health Specialist

Mason County is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist in Shelton, WA, responsible for public education and managing environmental health programs. Key tasks include enforcing regulations, conducting fieldwork, and providing support to clients. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of experience, or a Master's degree as a substitute. A valid WA State Driver’s License and Registered Sanitarian certification are required.
Environmental Health Specialist is responsible for providing information and support to the general public and a broad base of regulated clients and may manage one or more environmental health programs. Services include communicating information on sanitation, protecting the public from environmental hazards, and interpreting environmental laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines. Incumbents perform field work, provide public education, and enforce code compliance in one or more environmental health program areas, working under the supervision of the Environmental Health Manager with technical oversight from senior Environmental Health Specialists as appropriate.

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a life science or environmental health or a related field. Two (2) years of experience in one (1) or more environmental health program areas.

A Master’s Degree in Environmental or Public Health may substitute for two (2) years’ experience, provided the applicant demonstrates all knowledge, skills, and abilities required by the position.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid WA State Driver’s License.

Certification with the State as a Registered Sanitarian.

Pay: $27.53 - $39.40 per hour
