Job Description

Kansas State University is hiring an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist in Manhattan, KS. The role involves supporting research and laboratory environments, conducting inspections, and collaborating with researchers. About This Role

The EHS Specialist provides critical support to research and laboratory environments across the KSU Enterprise. The position is responsible for conducting annual fume hood inspections and other critical equipment.. Will collaborate and work closely with researchers and teaching labs.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:
• Requires a bachelor's degree in science-related field and one year of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Professional Certifications; CSP, CIH, CIH, CHP, or similar designations.
• One to three years of experience in safety, EHS, or related.
• Previous work in a laboratory/research environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Public Health, Physics, or related science or engineering discipline (e.g.: toxicology, environmental health). And/or be willing to accept an education/training plan as condition of employment.

Other Requirements:
• Must have a valid driver's license upon hire and maintain safe driving record.
• Ability to pass/maintain fit-for-duty requirements; background checks, pre-employment physical, and respiratory protection clearance.
• Obtain/Maintain 40-hour HAZWOPER designation and be able to respond to spills/leaks and related EHS responses.
• Respond as needed for the Emergency Response Team. Requires enrollment in the hazmat medical surveillance program and respiratory protection program. Must be medically cleared to use related PPE, including SCBA.
• EHS has rotating shared on-call 24/7 responsibilities.
• 3 -5 years EHS-related work experience
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for a broad audience.
• Strong computer skills, attention to detail, and record-keeping skills.
• Analytical ability.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all stakeholders.
