We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to support R&D operations by leading risk assessments, incident documentation, and hazardous waste coordination. The ideal candidate will have a background in chemistry or a related technical field, with 2-3+ years of experience in R&D settings or EHS roles. This role focuses on office-based functions, including assessments, documentation, and communication with researchers and EHS teams.

This is slated as a 1-year contract with potential for extension/conversion.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead EHS risk assessments, escalate to subject matter experts as needed, and guide researchers through the MOC process — including when an MOC is required and how to initiate one.
• Initiate, follow up, and complete incident reports promptly. Lead root cause investigations and document corrective measures to prevent reoccurrence. Provide updates to stakeholders regarding causal analysis and action plans.
• Serve as the Hazardous Waste Coordinator by updating waste stream profiles for new materials, planning lab clean-out days, and advising researchers on proper disposal of miscellaneous waste types.
• Conduct routine EHS inspections and track action items and pending approvals.
• Maintain open communication channels within the EHS team and with researchers. Share information, escalate issues, and highlight successes and trends.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical, science, or engineering discipline (chemistry preferred).
• 2-3+ years of experience in R&D settings or EHS roles.
• Strong knowledge of risk assessment processes and documentation.
• Experience in technical, industrial, or environmental health and safety environments.
• Effective communication skills — both verbal and written.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with databases and tools related to risk assessment and incident tracking.
• Familiarity with hazardous waste management and waste stream profiling.
• Experience conducting inspections and managing EHS action items.
• Ability to identify trends and proactively address potential EHS concerns.
