About the position

The Environmental, Health, Safety and Security Specialist at LOTTE Aluminium Materials, USA plays a crucial role in supporting and managing the Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHSS) Program of the plant. This position is essential for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting a safe workplace. The specialist will work closely with the Environmental, Health Safety & Security Manager to implement best practices and monitor key performance indicators related to environmental compliance, energy usage, waste management, and water conservation. In this role, the specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, reviewing, and updating environmental programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including Storm Water Permits, Wastewater Permits, and Air Emission Surveys. The specialist will also conduct internal audits to ensure adherence to company policies and regulations, and will assist in engineering new processes to meet or exceed environmental standards. Training employees and coaching management on updated environmental programs will be a key responsibility, as will the preparation of annual reports for chemical inventory and toxic release reporting. The specialist will also coordinate with outside contractors and consultants for permit applications and performance testing, and will drive energy, water, and waste reduction projects. This position requires a strong understanding of federal and state environmental regulations, excellent organizational and planning skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management. The specialist will be expected to work independently and manage multiple tasks while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.

Responsibilities
• Monitor monthly environmental Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports (e.g., compliance, energy, waste, and water)
,
• Assist as a resource to plants in planning and implementing best practices in environmental program and waste reduction opportunities
,
• Assist plant on periodic environmental permit application activities (air, water, and waste)
,
• Develop, implement, review, and update environmental programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
,
• Train employees and provide coaching to management on updated environmental programs, policies and procedures per compliance
,
• Conduct ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) Phase I and II reviews
,
• Develop and maintain data for EPCRA 312 Chemical Inventory reporting and prepare annual reports
,
• Comply with all regulations set by the Federal & State EPA/DOT and Local Governmental requirements and regulations
,
• Conduct internal audits to ensure company compliance with all company environmental policies and procedures
,
• Drive Energy (CO2), Water and Waste Energy Projects, develop environmental action plans and countermeasures and report out on KPI matrixes
,
• Coordinate the work of outside contractors and consultants to support creation of permit applications and process performance testing
,
• Assist in engineering new processes and devices to meet or exceed environmental regulations
,
• Identify and inform management of compliance issues and improvement opportunities

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering (or related degree) with 3 years of relevant experience OR 5 years of relevant experience in Environmental, Health and Safety within a manufacturing environment

• General understanding and working knowledge of basic engineering principles
,
• Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (Kentucky)
,
• Strong organization and planning skills
,
• Ability to compile effective and concise visual reports
,
• Effective presentation and writing skills
,
• Knowledge of energy engineering and landfill reduction strategies
,
• Ability to multitask and facilitate problem solving & resolution
,
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
,
• Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interface with all levels of employees, senior management and senior outside representatives
,
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
,
• Excellent computer skills
,
• Thorough knowledge of practices and methods for developing and administering a comprehensive EH&S program
,
• Proficient in performing EH&S assessments to identify workplace hazards and determining appropriate control measures
,
• Broad knowledge of the methods and practices for conducting accident and workplace safety audits and investigations required

Nice-to-haves
• ISO14001 Lead Auditor Certification

• ISO14001 System Implementation and Management experience

• CSP or CHMM certification
,
• Experience with Environmental permitting including air permits and Environmental compliance experience

• 3-5 years Environmental Compliance, ISO14001 and Energy (CO2), Waste and Water Reduction experience
