Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council seeks an Environmental Health Officer for its Public Protection Team in Ashton-under-Lyne, UK. The role involves proactive and reactive work in food hygiene, health and safety, and infectious disease control. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health Officer to join the Public Protection Team at Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. As an Environmental Health Officer, you will be instrumental in achieving both our proactive and reactive work programmes. You will work alongside an experienced group of officers who are knowledgeable, dedicated, hardworking and ever keen to protect the public whilst exploring innovative ways of providing a sustainable regulatory service, across a wide range of services in food hygiene, health and safety, infectious disease, investigation of complaints and accidents and to enforce other statutory provisions and provide relevant advice.
Our ideal candidate will have completed their Environmental Health Practitioner Portfolio and be a CIEH registered Environmental Health Practitioner. You will have a thorough understanding or previous experience of working in food safety, health and safety and infectious disease control. To succeed in this role, you will have an approachable manner, excellent communication skills and the ability to independently prioritise your workload. The ability to inspect high risk and complex food processes incorporating knowledge of food standards would also be desirable. This multi-disciplinary role requires a committed and flexible officer to contribute to delivering the team's wide range of functions and the successful candidate will be expected to carry out a variety of duties in a timely and effective manner and that general confidentiality is maintained in all areas relating to the work of the Council. About You You must have an Environmental Health Degree / Diploma, ideally with previous recent work experience in Environmental Health disciplines and believe that you can make a valued contribution to our service. As such the grade for the job has a professional grade development bar which employees can progress through subject to meeting the following criteria : 1. Relevant professional qualification for the job role at Level 6 or above, AND 2. Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in the role, AND 3. Maintained membership of a regulated body where this is a requirement to practice in the role where applicable, AND 4. Professional standards practised to the highest expected level. This post is a designated customer facing role under the fluency duty and requires a specified level of spoken English.
