Job Description

The Commonwealth of Kentucky is hiring an Environmental Health Insp Prog Evaluator for the Food Safety Branch in Frankfort, KY. The role involves conducting inspections of food manufacturing facilities, preparing reports, and collaborating with various stakeholders on public health issues. Inspectors will travel within the state and receive continuous training, including occasional out-of-state travel. A bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience are required.
Description

The Kentucky Food Safety Branch Food Manufacturing Section is responsible for the regulatory oversight of all firms manufacturing, processing, packaging and holding of human food in Kentucky. The Section is made up of a team of Inspectors with varying degrees of training in food processing. The Food Manufacturing Inspectors travel within the state visiting firms to conduct inspections and follow-up on food safety related complaints.

The position allows the Inspector to plan and organize their schedule with their home location being their field office. Training in this position is continuous and includes occasional out -of-state travel to learn with other Inspectors from across the United States. The Food Safety Branch works closely with the Food and Drug Administration and conducts some inspections on their behalf.

Counties served by this South-Central Kentucky position includes: Hardin, Larue, Marion, Boyle, Garrard, Madison, Hart, Green Taylor, Casey, Lincoln, Rockcastle, Jackson, Barren Metcalfe, Adair, Russell, Pulaski, Laurel, Allen Monroe, Cumberland, Clinton, Wayne, McCreary and Whitley.

Responsibilities And Duties
• Conduct food and cosmetic inspections for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in non- complex food manufacturing and processing facilities. Identify and determine adequacy of evidence in enforcement compliance issues within the scope of inspections performed. Complete training to conduct more complex inspections.
• Prepare comprehensive reports that reflect the analysis and review of established policies, procedures and regulations related to inspectional findings.
• Provide assistance with federal, state and local officials, cooperative organizations, and industry in addressing concerns and public health hazards in areas of enforcement, interpretations, training, and reports.
• Follow prescribed methods and procedures for sampling, using detection instruments and interpreting measurements as they relate to public health and safety.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent oral communication skills.
• Ability to collect, organize, analyze findings and apply to regulation.
• Excellent technical report writing.
• Highly organized with ability to prioritize work and adapt to frequent changes in work assignment.
• Proficiency using standard professional computer software applications.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree with a minor or twenty-four (24) semester hours in environmental health, biological health or physical science.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have three years of professional regulatory experience or experience in health administration, health service occupation, milk/food laboratory quality control or milk/food industry.
