Job Description

Clayton Home Building Group is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager for their new facility in Morristown, IN. The role involves ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations, conducting training, and managing health and safety programs. Responsibilities include maintaining records, leading ISO 14001 certification efforts, administering workers’ compensation, and reporting to the Home Office. The position requires some travel, estimated at less than 20%.

The Position

Environmental Health & Safety Manager (EHS)

Location

New facility in Morristown, Indiana, just southeast of Indianapolis

Reporting Relationships

The EHS Manager is responsible for all phases of environmental, health, and safety functions for Heibar Indiana and will report directly to the General Manager and will work closely with the Operations Team.

The EHS Manager will implement and ensure compliance with environmental and safety training activities and programs intended to create a safe and healthful workplace. Use proven methods for identifying and eliminating hazards and reducing accidents as well as reducing the business impact on the environment. Develop and maintain a working relationship with Clayton HBG Home Office team with respect to environmental and safety training programs as required. Monitors and maintains environmental, safety and health programs for facility team members.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Maintain all recordkeeping and conduct activities necessary for environmental compliance and ISO 14001 program (monthly material usage recordkeeping, storm water, air permitting, etc) and complete Annual Storm water and other required training.
• Champion the ISO 14001 certification to include leading facility EMS Committee and associated meetings (Objectives and Targets Team Meetings). Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in Company and Facility sustainability objectives.
• Facilitate Internal and External ISO Audits, and follow-through on all applicable findings and corrective actions.
• Conduct and complete Injury and Illness report with injured team member, Area Coordinator and Team Leader or Manager after completing thorough accident investigation. Ensure post-accident drug screens are completed as required.
• Administer the workers’ compensation program, which includes working with the company’s insurance carrier to reduce lost time and fraudulent claims, case management and communications with team members, as well as, administer the company’s Return-to-Work program including the transitional employment teams. Participate in and follow-up on the investigation of work-related injuries/illnesses, on-the-job accidents, or near misses as required.
• Act as worker’s compensation liaison and participate in quarterly reviews of loss runs. Complete and maintain OSHA 300 Log record keeping.
• Report to Home Office EHS Director monthly reporting numbers; (OSHA entries for previous month, Lost Time Accident and OSHA streaks in number of days).
• Report to Home Office Senior ISO Specialist monthly reporting numbers and metrics for ISO (landfilled waste tonnages, recycling tonnages, electricity consumption, and water usage)
• Maintain active involvement in teams’ safety committee functions by coordinating monthly meetings and inspections, ensuring recording of minutes, and coordination of changes based on committee feedback and inspection results.
• Primary contact for property carrier loss control personnel during scheduled visits. Provide written plan of action within 30 days to property carrier representative and Home Office EHS Director.
• Conduct facility inspections to detect existing or potential safety hazards and make recommendations regarding corrective or preventive measures to management and identify ways to prevent reoccurrence of accidents by reengineering, changing the process or providing personal protective equipment.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA standards and regulations such as Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tag out, Blood borne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation, Emergency Evacuation Plans, etc. utilizing the Home Office EHS Director as a resource.
• Administer Hearing Conservation Program.
• Ensure team members who are First Responders are trained in First Aid, CPR and AED; and are certified by State and Federal laws as required.
• Maintain current MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) master binder. Provide individual binders for the designated teams in manufacturing facility.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to read and understand building specifications greatly desired
• Demonstrated adherence to safety protocols
• Ability to adapt quickly and make sound decisions in a changing, fast-paced work environment

Education
• Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or five years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Certifications
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
• OSHA 30 Hour

Professional Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years relevant leadership experience
• High level of understanding and knowledge of federal, state, local and company regulations and standards applicable to environmental protection agency (EPA) and occupational health and safety (OSHA) practices and programs and state worker’s compensations system.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
• Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to get along with diverse personalities.
• Previous construction experience strongly preferred
• Experience in manufactured housing is greatly desired
• Experience in high-speed manufacturing environment preferred
• Experience with ISO Standards a plus
• Ability to adapt quickly and make sound decisions in a changing, fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Work may require stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, pushing, and / or pulling
• Work environment is not temperature controlled and may result in exposure to extreme temperatures
• Work primarily involves sitting / standing, up to 4 hours at a time
