Job Description
Arizona State University is seeking an Environmental Graphic Designer to enhance the campus environment through the design, planning, and installation of graphics, maps, and signs. Responsibilities include creating two- and three-dimensional designs, preparing visualizations, and ensuring compliance with design standards. Candidates should have a relevant degree and experience in graphic design or environmental graphics. The position is located in Tempe, AZ and is not remote.
About the position
The Environmental Graphic Designer at Arizona State University will be responsible for preparing, planning, designing, building, and installing a variety of two and three-dimensional graphics, maps, and signs that enhance the campus environment. This role involves using computer-assisted technology and materials common to the environmental graphic design industry to create effective wayfinding and visual information for the university's campus.
Responsibilities
• Design from blueprints, hand drawn or digital files a variety of two- and three-dimensional signs, maps and graphics.
,
• Prepare photo visualizations and mockups of proposed signage for placement, content and/or usage.
,
• Create electronically designed layouts and import word processing files to merge graphical, logo and associated artwork as specified.
,
• Create signs and maps using computer-assisted design sign-making equipment.
,
• Review layout and proofreads sign text to ensure accuracy, effectiveness of final design and compliance with established campus design, logo and signage standards.
,
• Review blueprints, renderings and/or schematics to determine the most effective placement of signage.
,
• Apply signage and graphics to a variety of interior and exterior surfaces to assist enhance and/or increase wayfinding and visual information.
,
• Confer with clients and Environmental Graphic Design staff and others regarding project specifications, policies and graphic standards.

• Deliver and transport materials.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Graphic Arts, Visual Arts or related field such as English, Journalism, Marketing, Psychology, Advertising or Public Relations and one year of experience in Architectural signage, Environmental Graphic Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design; OR
,
• Associates degree in Graphic Design, Graphic Arts, Visual Arts or related field such as English, Journalism, Marketing, Psychology, Advertising or Public Relations and three years experience in Architectural Signage, Environmental Graphics Design, Graphic Design Industrial Design; OR
,
• Five years experience in Graphic Design, Graphic Arts, Visual Arts or related field such as English, Journalism, Marketing, Psychology, Advertising or Public Relations; OR
,
• Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
,
• Current Class D Arizona driver's license.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience with Computer-assisted design and sign-making equipment.

• Computer generated sign-making/graphics programs.
,
• Creating scaled drawings with dimensions for architectural signs, information displays, wayfinding kiosks, or outdoor advertising.

• Working from blueprints, hand drawings or digital files.
,
• Develop and present creative concepts that satisfy business goal.
,
• Design within established university graphic standards guidelines.
,
• Design to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act.

• Knowledge of Environmental graphic design, materials, assembly and installation techniques.

• Signage printing and signage procedures and requirements.

• Methods, practices, tools, and materials used in sign fabrication/installation.
