Job Description
The Society for Conservation Biology is hiring an Environmental Geologist/Engineer in Vernon, CA. Responsibilities include field and office tasks related to geological and environmental science, soil and water sampling, supervising subcontractors, and preparing reports. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related field with 3+ years of experience. The position requires physical exertion and work in adverse weather conditions.

Job Title: Environmental Geologist/Engineer
Work Location: Vernon, CA
Pay Rate: $31.00/hr
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform various field and office tasks requiring the application of standard geological and environmental science principles and theories.
• Assist and conduct soil, surface water, groundwater, sediment, and other environmental sampling.
• Soil classification and sampling during drilling, test pitting, and excavation activities.
• Supervise drillers and other subcontractors.
• Execute field projects with health and safety as the top priority.
• Complete field documentation such as activity hazard analysis (AHA) forms, project field reports, field notes, sampling records, and chain-of-custody forms.
• Assist in geologic and environmental analyses and interpretation, which may include hydrogeology and/or geochemistry.
• Analyze and interpret environmental sample analysis results within the context of the geological setting.
• Prepare figures of environmental data, potentiometric surface maps, geologic maps, and cross sections.
• Develop materials and assist in completing reports on finished field work.
• May provide technical guidance to lower-level geologists or environmental scientists.
• Work with project managers, using interpersonal and organizational skills, to ensure projects are completed on time and budget.
• Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
• A familiarity with related environmental rules and regulations is preferred.
• This work requires some physical exertion such as extended periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; lifting; recurring bending or similar activities.
• Work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., hot, cold, rain, snow).
• Demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication skills.
• Maturity in interaction and ability to operate self-sufficiently in the field or as part of a team.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in Geology or related field and typically 3+ years of related work experience.
