About the position

The Environmental Engineer at Delaware State University will play a crucial role in addressing significant societal challenges related to climate change and sustainable infrastructure. This position involves working within a multi-disciplinary team to develop innovative engineering solutions, conduct research, and implement policies focused on climate adaptation and mitigation. The engineer will also be responsible for leading research projects, mentoring students, and engaging with various stakeholders to promote environmental sustainability.

Responsibilities
• Develop an externally funded research program leading to national and international recognition in environmental design and engineering.

• Train graduate and undergraduate students in engineering principles and practices.
,
• Explore projects related to carbon transformations and sustainable climate solutions.
,
• Engage in developing research-practice partnerships with local districts and organizations.
,
• Conduct design-based implementation research and analyze data using mixed-methods approaches.
,
• Consult with and mentor teams of students, coordinating project activities and managing communication among partners.
,
• Lead product training for internal technical service staff and engineering teams.
,
• Assist in developing systems for data collection and management, and prepare materials for conferences.
,
• Provide environmental engineering services to internal collaborators and external customers.
,
• Participate in departmental and university-level service activities.

Requirements
• Minimum of three years practical experience in environmental engineering or related field.

• Degree in professional engineering from an ABET-accredited program preferred.
,
• 3+ years of experience with environmental planning and knowledge of relevant environmental laws and regulations.
,
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
,
• Excellent writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively.
,
• Experience in managing, analyzing, and reporting data using Microsoft Office tools.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience with energy efficiency and agricultural systems.
