About This Role
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Environmental Engineer to support the design and licensing of nuclear fuel cycle facilities. This role involves assessing environmental impacts, ensuring regulatory compliance, and developing strategies to minimize the environmental footprint of nuclear facility operations. The Environmental Engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate environmental considerations into facility design and licensing activities.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct environmental assessments and support the preparation of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and Environmental Reports (ER) in compliance with NRC and NEPA requirements.
• Collaborate with engineering and design teams to integrate environmental considerations into facility layouts, processes, and technologies.
• Develop and implement strategies to minimize environmental impacts related to air, water, soil, and waste management.
• Prepare and submit permit applications for environmental approvals from federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including EPA, NRC, and state-specific requirements.
• Conduct environmental monitoring and data analysis to support compliance and operational improvements.
• Provide technical expertise during regulatory inspections, audits, and public hearings.
• Stay informed about changes in environmental regulations and their potential impact on facility design and licensing.
• Develop and deliver training programs to educate staff on environmental policies, procedures, and best practices.
Basic Qualifications:
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
• Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals even with partial information.
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong knowledge of NRC, EPA, NEPA, and other applicable environmental regulations and standards.
• Experience with environmental modeling software and data analysis tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing regulatory documentation and engaging with stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc).
• Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment or a highly technical role requiring a resourceful, entrepreneurial approach to complete tasks within tight timeframes or budget constraints.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
• Familiarity with nuclear facility licensing and design processes.
• Advanced degrees.
Additional Requirements:
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
