Job Description

The Environmental Educator at Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, CO, is responsible for delivering engaging education programs onsite and in the community. Duties include facilitating learning experiences for diverse audiences, using live animals for demonstrations, and representing the organization at outreach events. This part-time position emphasizes teamwork, communication, and behavior management in high-energy settings. The role supports the Pavilion's mission of promoting invertebrate conservation and science education.

These aren't just words, but words for us to live by here at Butterfly Pavilion.Position Summary:The Educator is responsible for providing world-class onsite and outreach education and experiences to learners of all ages across the Denver Metro area and onsite at Butterfly Pavilion, this includes field trip classes, outreach programs, virtual learning programs, afterschool programs, and camp programs. The Educator may also be asked to represent Butterfly Pavilion at events throughout the community.Essential Functions:Facilitating play-based learning and providing educational information to guests of all ages.Being an ambassador at outreach booths in the community.Using live animals to demonstrate science-based concepts to guests.Teaching engaging, interactive science education programs at the Butterfly Pavilion, in local schools, youth organizations, senior centers, libraries, other community locations, and via real-time interactive video conference (distance learning) for diverse audiences.Using live animals to demonstrate science concepts.Working alongside all team members to provide high quality education programs.Communicating with teachers and group leads.Safely transporting and using live animals to demonstrate science-based concepts to learners.Creating meaningful interaction between the content and learners for a deeper and more thoughtful experience and to make connections between class or lesson topic and daily life.Developing and/or redesign and implement curricula and programs in alignment with P&I learning framework which meets the needs of diverse audiences for all after-school programs.Delivering content teaching engaging, interactive science education programs in the identified sites.Exhibiting strong behavior management skills in high energy environments Additional Duties:Attend required branch and facility meetings and trainingsUSDA and Animal Handling trainingCrosstrain to work in additional areas as appropriateCompleting supplemental required training.
