Job Description
Chesterfield County is hiring an Environmental Educator to manage the Cooperative Extension Master Gardener volunteer program and support environmental horticulture education. Responsibilities include coordinating volunteer efforts, leading urban nutrient management initiatives, and developing curricula to promote sustainability. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in a related field and relevant experience. Strong organizational and communication skills are required. This is a full-time position based in Chesterfield, VA.
About the position
The Environmental Educator position is focused on managing the Cooperative Extension Master Gardener volunteer program and supporting educational services in environmental horticulture. The role involves coordinating volunteer efforts, leading urban nutrient management initiatives, and developing educational curricula to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices within the community.
Responsibilities
• Manage the Cooperative Extension Master Gardener volunteer program's recruitment, training, and development.
,
• Support ongoing educational services and programs in environmental horticulture, fertilizer and nutrient management, water quality, and pollinator protection.
,
• Coordinate volunteer efforts to enhance and expand educational outreach programs.
,
• Lead the urban nutrient management program and write Urban Nutrient Management reports.
,
• Develop, conduct, and support environmental education including curriculum development.
,
• Support pesticide certification efforts of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent.
,
• Work with Extension staff, county departments, and county residents to provide outreach education through social media, community projects, and demonstration gardens.

• Perform other work as required.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agriculture, botany, or related field of study.
,
• One year of related experience; two years preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
,
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize as needed.
,
• Excellent people management skills.
,
• Ability to deliver positive, efficient communication verbally and in writing to volunteers, clients, staff, and community partners through presentations, reports, and coordination.
,
• Proven facility with MS Office suite and social media platforms required, experience with VMS and LMS preferred.
,
• Excellent customer service and analytical skills.
,
• Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
Nice-to-haves
• Urban nutrient manager certification preferred or knowledge of urban nutrient management planning.
