Environmental Educator

The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center is seeking an Environmental Educator in Stonington, CT. The role involves developing and teaching environmental education programs for various age groups, handling education animals, and collaborating with staff and volunteers. Candidates should have at least 2 years of college education in related fields and a passion for teaching about the natural world. The position requires a varied schedule and public speaking skills.
Primary RelationshipsThis position reports to the Education Director and works closely with the Education department, other staff, volunteers, and program participants of all ages and abilities.Principle ResponsibilitiesDeveloping and implementing environmental education curriculum.Teaching environmental education programs both on and offsite for all ages.Handling education animals, including snakes, turtles, and birds of prey.Various other duties as assigned by the Education Director.QualificationsCompletion of at least 2 years of college education in the fields of education, environmental education, biology, natural resources, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.Prior relevant work experience is not required but preferred.Willingness to work a varied schedule.Willingness to work with live animals.Enthusiasm for interacting with children and teaching them about the natural world.Comfortable leading adult programs on environmental topics.Comfortable speaking publicly, managing small and large groups, both in a classroom setting and outside.Proficient knowledge of the area’s natural history.How to applyPlease email your resume and cover letter to:Kim Hargrave, Education Directorkhargrave@dpnc.orgAbout DPNCThe Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center (DPNC) is a nonprofit nature center in Mystic, CT that offers environmental education programs for all ages.
