About the position

The Environmental Document Writer position at the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is a permanent role focused on preparing essential environmental documents to comply with state and federal regulations for construction projects within the MnDOT Metro District. The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting various types of documents, including those required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), such as Categorical Exclusions and Environmental Assessments. Additionally, the role involves preparing documents under the Minnesota Environmental Policy Act (MEPA), including Environmental Assessment Worksheets and Findings of Fact and Conclusion. In this position, the writer will engage in gathering environmental information, reviewing existing documents, and coordinating the approval process for these environmental documents. The role requires a thorough understanding of both federal and Minnesota environmental laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. The writer will also need to stay informed about statewide and regional environmental issues to ensure that the documents prepared are relevant and compliant. Responsibilities

Requirements
• Two years of professional experience; OR a bachelor's or master's degree in Environmental Science or a related field plus one year of professional experience.

• Experience preparing environmental documents and gathering environmental information.

• Knowledge of federal and Minnesota environmental laws, regulations, policies, practices, and procedures.

• Ability to analyze, write, edit, and organize material from diverse sources.

• Experience managing multiple environmental review documents at the same time.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel and Word.
