Tonkin is seeking an Environmental Consultant in Adelaide to join their national environment and sustainability team. The role involves supporting infrastructure assessment projects across various sectors, conducting fieldwork, and reporting on contamination investigations. Candidates should have relevant tertiary qualifications and strong communication skills. The position requires a valid Australian driver’s license and may involve short-term travel. This is a full-time position based in Adelaide, not remote.
We are looking for a passionate and talented environmental consultant to join our national environment and sustainability team, based in Adelaide. This role will support the delivery and growth of services within our infrastructure design business, working on a diverse array of high profile, major infrastructure assessment projects across a range of sectors, including waste, transport (road/rail/ports/air), water utilities, local and state government, and urban renewal property sectors.

As part of this role, you will:
Work amongst a team of peers and alongside our clients, while learning first-hand from our in-house national consultants and technical leaders. You will primarily assist with and undertake fieldwork and reporting aspects of multiple concurrent contamination investigations and remediation projects of varying size and complexity.

You could be working on:
• Preliminary and Detailed Site Investigations
• Due diligence assessments
• Compliance groundwater and landfill gas monitoring
• Data management and digital reporting
• Remedial action plans
• Site validation reports
• Waste soil classifications
• Site supervision and contractor management
• Project administration

In addition you will:
• Engage in learning and development to upskill your capabilities
• Participate in team building initiatives and contribute to a culture of trust, excellence, and care.
• Contribute to industry research and initiatives

What you will bring:
You bring tertiary qualifications relevant to environmental consulting including:
• Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline such as environmental science, engineering, geology, soil science, or hydrogeology
• Experience in preliminary and detailed site investigations for soil, vapour, and groundwater would be viewed favourably as would experience in data management software (ESDAT / Equis), although this is not essential for a graduate position
• A current and valid Australian driver’s license is essential
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills

You will be self-motivated, details orientated, articulate and reliable and enjoy working as a part of a broader team and also individually. As a member of a national team, you must be willing to travel for work for short time periods both within SA and nationally as required.
This role requires strong analytical and communications skills to engage other colleagues in the broader Tonkin business where required to develop technical solutions.

What you will get:
You will be part of a growing national environment and sustainability team within our infrastructure design business, where people come first. You will have access to excellent coaching and mentoring by qualified and industry leading professionals. This role offers an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to work in a collaborative environment and grow with our team. It’s a great time to be a part of Tonkin given our almost 70 years presence in the industry and exciting plans for the future. Reach out to find out more!
