Description
Responsible for oversight of and the company’s compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Manage subject matter experts in Enterprise Environmental Compliance and partner with divisions, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Pharmacy and all other departments in the Kroger Enterprise to ensure regulatory compliance in the operations of the company. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.
Responsibilities
• Maintain the environmental compliance organization and supervise and coach members in the performance of their duties
• Coordinate and serve as a resource to environmental compliance managers supporting business units and divisions in a regional organization
• Oversee and coordinate environmental compliance for the Enterprise
• Manage the corporate Business Resilience/Business Continuity team
• Identify gaps and work to ensure compliance with environmental regulations at all company locations and with all functions and activities (e.g. reclamation, zero waste initiatives)
• Remain current on all applicable environmental regulations and enforcement actions and maintain relationships with federal, state and local environmental agencies
• Operate as the company’s primary representative with regulatory agencies
• Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures and ensure consistency in application across the Enterprise where advisable
• Implement, coordinate and oversee environmental compliance systems and processes
• Oversee the selection and management of third party environmental consultants and service providers
• Oversee, monitor and ensure auditing of and adherence to environmental compliance across the enterprise
• Develop and implement best practices for record keeping of training and compliance records and improve accessibility of records
• Respond to alleged violations of compliance standards, assist with investigations, and oversee remediation efforts in a manner that meets all regulatory requirements
• Provide regular, periodic reporting on environmental compliance efforts to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer and other designated executives
• Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports
• Travel independently up to 30%
• Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment
• Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner
• Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information
• Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues
• Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
Qualifications
Minimum
• Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of broad environmental compliance experience
• Environmental Management experience
• Knowledge of business resilience principles
• Ability to train, educate and motivate associates in all levels of the organization
• Ability to think critically, act independently and interdependently, formulate plans and proposals, and persuade others to execute plans
• Ability to make significant decisions without close supervision
• Strong math skills
• Project management experience
• Strong presentation skills
• Working knowledge of the following enterprise systems: Microsoft Office applications (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desired
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or Master’s degree
• Retail, Manufacturing, Fuel and Transportation Industry experience
• Experience working for or interacting with environmental agencies
• Experience with environmental compliance software solutions
• Knowledge of Kroger policies, procedures and organization structure
