Job Description

The Environmental Compliance Coordinator at the City of Albuquerque is responsible for overseeing compliance with environmental regulations for the Solid Waste Management Department. About the position

The Environmental Compliance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating environmental compliance activities and regulatory requirements for the Solid Waste Management Department. This role ensures that the department and its facilities maintain compliance with local, state, and federal permits, licenses, and registrations. The coordinator will monitor and report on compliance status, perform various administrative, professional, and technical tasks, and support the assigned area of responsibility. This position is classified as safety-sensitive, which means it is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The job description serves as a general outline of the tasks and duties expected of employees in this classification, but it may not encompass all responsibilities performed in this role. The coordinator will be expected to recommend and implement goals and objectives for environmental compliance activities, ensuring that all operations align with pertinent regulations. This includes staying updated on recent developments and current literature related to compliance activities, as well as understanding the laws and regulations governing environmental protection in New Mexico. The role requires advanced investigative techniques and a thorough understanding of environmental compliance methods relevant to the assigned responsibilities. The coordinator will also be responsible for preparing materials and making public presentations that involve complex technical information, ensuring clear communication with regulatory agencies and the public.

Responsibilities
• Oversee and coordinate environmental compliance activities and regulatory requirements for the assigned department and/or facility.

• Ensure maintenance of and compliance with assigned local, state, and federal permits, licenses, and registrations.
,
• Monitor and report on compliance status associated with permits, licenses, and registrations.
,
• Perform a variety of administrative, professional, and technical tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility.
,
• Recommend and implement goals and objectives for environmental compliance activities.
,
• Gather data, research, analyze, and recommend solutions to environmental compliance problems.
,
• Prepare materials and make public presentations involving complex technical information.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, geology, or engineering.
,
• Five (5) years of administrative regulatory compliance experience.
,
• Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
,
• Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
,
• Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Nice-to-haves
• Knowledge of recent developments, current literature, and information related to assigned compliance activities.

• Familiarity with New Mexico Solid Waste and Scrap Tire Regulations.
,
• Understanding of Albuquerque Bernalillo Air Quality Board, Title V and associated Construction Permits.
,
• Knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Multi Sector General Permit (MSGP).
,
• Experience with Spill Prevention Control and Counter Measures (SPCC).
,
• Familiarity with New Mexico Environment Department Surface (NMED) Water Quality Bureau 401 Permit.
