About the position

The Environmental Commodities Trader at DTE Energy Trading will join the Environmental Markets team, focusing on trading renewable energy, renewable fuels, and carbon markets. This role involves market analysis, trading strategy development, and risk management to create value in assigned regions. The trader will be responsible for executing trades, monitoring market conditions, and ensuring positive financial outcomes while adhering to risk management protocols.

Responsibilities
• Analyzes markets in the assigned regions/products and develops and executes proprietary trading strategies.

• Accountable for delivering positive financial results from the use of the company's capital.
,
• Manages capital allocation for positions and develops optimal trade execution strategies while managing the associated risks of the strategy.
,
• Routinely trades renewable energy credits (RECs), carbon allowances/offsets, Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) credits, Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs), or other environmental commodities related to the assigned market to which the company has exposure.
,
• Considers potential trades over several different time horizons and the interrelations and connectivity between several disparate supply/demand factors.

• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
• Minimum B.S or B.A or equivalent experience in economics, finance, engineering, or other relevant discipline(s).
,
• 3-5 years of trading and/or applicable analytical experience.

Nice-to-haves
• Thorough understanding of North American environmental markets, including supply and demand, logistics, regulations, and operations.
,
• Proficiency in data analytics and quantitative analysis, with experience in programming languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
,
• Specific knowledge of hedging and trading techniques for specific regions.
,
• Thorough understanding of all financial and physical products that are viable for executing trading strategies and hedges.
,
• Thorough understanding of risk measurement techniques such as VaR used in measuring specific trading activity.
,
• Team player with proven ability to work with internal stakeholder groups (e.g. risk, settlements, legal).
,
• Working knowledge of finance, accounting, production, operations, and public policy issues facing environmental markets.
,
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced dynamic commodity market environment, where there are often time constraints and time sensitive deadlines.

• Demonstrated high adaptability and adeptness in multitasking.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Strong capability to work autonomously and self-motivate for continuous self-education.
