About the position
The Environmental Cleanup / Brownfield Project Manager (Natural Resource Specialist 3) position at the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) involves managing cleanup projects at hazardous substance sites. The role focuses on ensuring that contaminated sites are properly investigated, characterized, and cleaned up to protect public health and the environment. The position is part of a team dedicated to enhancing Oregon's environmental quality and may involve hybrid work arrangements.
Responsibilities
• Serve as a project manager during the site investigation, design, construction, and operation phases of cleanup actions at hazardous substance sites.

• Ensure that contaminated sites are characterized and cleaned up in a cost-effective, timely manner that protects public health and the environment.

• Develop, implement, and manage task orders with DEQ environmental consultants to complete work using EPA cooperative agreement funding.

• Coordinate with DEQ Headquarters' Brownfield program and other regions regarding funding, site prioritization, project planning, and community outreach.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in a physical science, environmental science, natural resources, engineering, or closely related field.

• 3 years of experience in a natural resource or environmental field, with at least 1 year at a technical or professional level.

• Demonstrated understanding of environmental justice and the historical impacts for marginalized and underrepresented communities.
,
• Excellent project management and leadership skills, with prior regulatory experience in a project manager role.
,
• Experience directing all phases of environmental cleanups of sites contaminated with hazardous substances and petroleum contaminants.
,
• Technical and regulatory experience in environmental protection and restoration, including data analysis and project coordination.
,
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor communication to diverse audiences.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience with community engagement and outreach related to environmental projects.

• Knowledge of state and federal environmental laws and regulations.

• Familiarity with Brownfield funding sources and redevelopment initiatives.
