Job Description
Tecomet, Inc seeks an Environmental Assistant in Wilmington, MA, responsible for operating and maintaining wastewater treatment plant equipment. Duties include calibrating instruments, overseeing maintenance work, monitoring operations, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The role requires knowledge of wastewater systems, effective communication skills, and adherence to safety protocols. A high school diploma is required, with certifications in wastewater treatment and hazardous materials preferred.
Operates and performs maintenance and repairs on all operational,
mechanical, and electrical equipment, systems, and structures of the
Wastewater Treatment Plant. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates and performs maintenance and repairs on all operational,
mechanical, and electrical equipment, systems, and structures of the
wastewater treatment plant to include calibration of feeders and
instruments, and repair feeders, screens, dewatering equipment, pumps,
motors, hoists, valves, and various other wastewater equipment. Oversees
performance of any contractual maintenance work performed. Monitors
plant operations regularly for proper operation and treatment. Makes any
changes needed. Performs plant calculations for chemical dosages,
chemical usage, flow rates, detention time and all other calculations
necessary for the operation of the wastewater treatment plant.
Troubleshoots and performs corrective actions to insure discharged water
quality meets or exceeds the standards of EPA and the Massachusetts
Department of Environment Protection Prepare files and enters, computer
reports, spreadsheets, historical information, and maintenance records
according to City, State, and Federal guidelines. Manages Hazardous
waste including: Weekly inspections to ensure compliance with EPA / RCRA
regulations. Storage of Hazardous waste according to EPA and Mass DEP
Regulations Prepares Hazardous waste for shipment according to DOT
Regulations Works safely observing all OSHA, Federal, State, and City
regulations. Reports any accidents immediately to supervisor Promotes
teamwork environment. Assists coworkers when needed. Maintains the
sanitary cleanliness of work areas, treatment plant and associated
facilities. Reports incidents or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
May have to work after hours in emergency situations. KNOWLEDGE AND
SKILLS Working Knowledge Of All Wastewater Plant Equipment. Working
knowledge of all rules and regulations for wastewater treatment plants.
Must be able to wear mandatory safety equipment (Respirator, Chemical
Resistant Suit etc.) Ability to communicate effectively with
supervisors, coworkers, the public, and regulatory agency
representatives. Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or G.E.D. required Grade 2
or above Wastewater Treatment Operators certification preferred DOT Haz
Mat Shipping certification preferred RCRA Hazardous Waste certification
