About the position

The District Wetlands Ecologist (Environmental Analyst IV) position at the State of Vermont's Department of Environmental Conservation focuses on ensuring compliance with Vermont Wetland Rules through regulatory review of projects and complaints. The role involves fieldwork to identify wetlands, communicate with various stakeholders, and document findings related to wetland protections. Responsibilities
• Travel throughout the state to identify wetlands in the field.

• Review development projects and investigate complaints regarding wetland compliance.

• Evaluate wetland permit applications.

• Communicate daily with landowners, municipalities, consultants, and government colleagues about wetland protections.

• Interview respondents with compliance issues as necessary.

• Track wetland mitigation projects.

• Collect evidence of wetland compliance issues, including photographic images and geospatial information.

• Document communications and findings in databases, reports, and field applications.

Requirements
• Master's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, social science, data science, or environmental/natural resources field.

• OR Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field and one or more years of experience in a natural resources field.
,
• OR Four or more years of experience in engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field.

Nice-to-haves
• Excellent communication skills.

• Technical writing skills.

• Wetland-related experience, including knowledge of wetland ecology, delineation, and functional assessment.

• Knowledge of Enforcement Law.
