Job Purpose

Straughan Environmental, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time (hybrid) Environmental Analyst in our diverse Environmental Planning Team in our Columbia, Maryland headquarters. The successful candidate would have a primary focus on Noise and Air Quality studies. This role also offers opportunities to contribute to interdisciplinary projects involving Historic/Cultural Resources, Natural Resources, and the Socioeconomic environment.

Aligned with Straughan’s mission of “Advancing Sustainable and Resilient Communities,” this position supports the team by conducting environmental inventories/assessments, participating in fieldwork (as needed), preparing MicroStation/GIS mapping and data analyses, coordinating with environmental regulatory agencies, and supporting the preparation of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Salary Range for this position is $54,901.55 - $79,000. The compensation for this role is commensurate with experience.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Conduct traffic, rail, and construction noise analyses; Collect and process field data; Utilize CADD and GIS software to support noise modeling and analysis
• Perform noise barrier design, vibration analysis, and air quality assessments.
• Conduct or participate in environmental studies including Noise, Air, Cultural Resource Assessments, Section 4(f) Evaluations, Natural Environmental, and Socioeconomic Analyses.
• Assist in preparing NEPA documents such as categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, or environmental impact statements.
• Support office tasks including data management, analysis, preparation of environmental applications, technical report writing, and fieldwork documentation.
• Prepare materials and resources for public involvement and engagement.
• Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, regulatory agencies, and clients.
• Assist with environmental field studies and permitting.
• Create and interpret ArcGIS Pro maps and conduct basic geoprocessing analyses (desired).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, GIS, Planning, Engineering, Public Administration, Communications, Urban Studies, Natural Resources, or a related field.

Experience: Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both speech and writing are a must. In addition, candidates must be self-motivated and able to work in a multi-disciplinary, environmentally conscious, team environment.
• Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
• CADD experience (preference in MicroStation, GIS, or AutoCAD).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass background check.

Desired Qualifications
• Proficiency in MicroStation.
• Experience with ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro desired.
• Some relevant background in Acoustical Analysis, Noise Abatement Design, Air Quality, Traffic Analysis, Site Design, Roadway Design, and / or Rail Noise is preferred.
• 1 year of relevant experience.
• A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
• Experience preparing NEPA documents for state and federal clients, and in leading/conducting associated studies (i.e., natural and socio-economic studies, environmental justice analysis, air quality and noise studies, 4(f) (impact evaluation, historical/cultural resource investigations, hazardous assessments).
