Job Description
Bechtel Oil, Gas & Chemicals Incorporated is seeking an Environment & Sustainability Manager in Alexandria, MN. The role involves overseeing the Environmental Management Plan, managing a team, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with environmental policies. International Bechtel Company Ltd is providing engineering and project management support to our customer for the development of a next-generation city on the Mediterranean coast. The Project will cover the development of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, tourism amenities, and economic zones.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will oversee preparation and implementation of a project Environmental Management Plan and supervise a team to support plan integration and execution. You will work with functional leads, evaluate performance trends, and provide technical guidance on mitigation measures. Your leadership will ensure protection of environmentally sensitive areas, species, and communities.
This position is contingent upon project award and customer approvals. #LI-AR2
Major Responsibilities:
• Establish, monitor and report against the Project Environmental Execution Plan in accordance with Employer Policies, Governance.
• Managing framework for Environmental procedures and other requirements.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits of delivery performance against established KPI’s.
• Attend meetings and report to management and shareholders on environmental performance.
• Address concerns from stakeholders and others on environmental issues.
• Manage communication with stakeholders and others on environmental issues.
• Develop and communicate environmental practices and policies and ensure compliance.
• Assist contractors with ESIA, CESMP and customer environmental procedures ahead of enabling works and also building works.
• Projects wide departmental Environmental reporting-through planning, design, execution and handover stages.
• Educate project teams, internal and external stakeholders regarding environmental plans and policies to ensure accountability.
• Develop mitigation and crisis management plans to be implemented in the event of an environmental incident and successfully work with other departments and stakeholders to develop effective environmental strategies that reduce risk of pollutants and contamination.
• Review and propose amendments to existing environmental Policies, Plans, Employer Standards and requirements in line with global trends and Standards as well as Project department drivers-always in accordance with the Employer Vision.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Environmental tertiary education + University degree.
• Over 15 years' experience.
• 5 years + on major/mega-project delivery.
• Knowledge of environmental principles, best practices, and relevant regulations.
• Proficiency in conducting environmental inspections and audits.
• Previous PIF Environmental experience is a plus.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Strong professional background in social and/or environmental assessment, a proven track record in private sector investment delivery, people management/leadership skills, and familiarity with the IFC’s Sustainability Framework, and Equator Principles.
• Working under high pressure and managing multiple contractors.
• Experience in implementing ESIA requirements.
• Strong track record of both establishing and running Environmental Policies and Execution Plans.
• High emotional intelligence. Ability to deal with many stakeholders with competing priorities.
