Turano Baking Co. is seeking an Environment & Sustainability professional to ensure environmental compliance and lead sustainability initiatives. Responsibilities include auditing facilities, maintaining the Environmental Management System, and developing sustainability programs. A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years in environmental sciences are required. The position is full-time, based in Berwyn, IL, with a salary starting at $70,000 and includes various benefits.
Environment & Sustainability

Overview: This position is responsible for environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives. Environment & Sustainability is responsible to ensure that all facilities and employees are informed on and follow environmental regulations, must maintain the Environmental Management System for the company and strive to lead the industry in environmental performance. In order to ensure compliance, this individual must audit each facility’s operations and documentation on a regular basis against all applicable standards and protocols. Additionally, this position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and revising the companywide sustainability program to improve all facilities’ energy, water, and waste performance. This individual must work with all aspects of the organization to achieve sustainability goals and to ensure compliance with environmental requirements.

Duties
• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Preferred minimum 5 years of experience in environmental sciences, compliance, or sustainability.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel required.
• Must be computer literate.
• Detail oriented person and have the ability to work as part of a team.

Position Responsibilities & Objectives
• Review internal programs, protocols, and project plans to improve environmental compliance and to achieve sustainability goals.
• Support each facility’s needs to maintain environmental compliance and report compliance issues as directed.
• Support each facility’s needs to achieve environmental sustainability goals.
• Develop and interpret organizational goals, policies, and procedures with respect to environmental compliance and sustainability.
• Develop, maintain, and revise companywide Environmental Management System.
• Develop, maintain, and revise companywide sustainability program including but not limited to greenhouse gas reporting, zero waste initiatives, water and utility usage improvements, and ingredient procurement certifications.
• Develop resources to provide support for all programs and goals.
• Audit each facility’s performance in the above programs on a defined basis.
• Track performance in the above programs of all facilities independently and in comparison to each other for continual reporting purposes.
• Communicate Sustainability achievements internally and externally.
• Liaison as necessary with other organizations and relevant authorities concerning audits, remedial actions, and improvement initiatives.
