Job Description

August Mack Environmental, Inc. is seeking an Entry Level Field Scientist in Conshohocken, PA. The role involves diverse fieldwork, including groundwater sampling and environmental assessments, with on-the-job training provided. Candidates should have a relevant degree or experience, strong communication skills, and a valid driver's license. The position requires significant field travel (90%) and is not remote, as it involves working outside in various weather conditions.
Job Summary

Responsible for learning and performing a wide and diverse range of field work related to the various AME/EFS service areas. We offer on-the-job training and a career path to help our employees develop skills, gain experience, and advance their careers. Work is performed with direction from experienced level technical personnel, under the general supervision of the Field Operations Manager.

Essential Job Functions
• Perform task-oriented work with instruction   
• Understand and apply safety considerations for projects 
• Begin learning tasks and assist with labor support associated with: 
• Groundwater Sampling (Low-Flow, Grab, Peristaltic, & Bailer Techniques). 
• Monitoring Well Installation (Direct-Push, Hollow Stem Auger, & Pre-Pack). 
• Vapor Intrusion Studies (Leak Testing, Equipment Construction, Etc.)
• Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) Sampling
• Sample collection for soil, groundwater, and vapor
• Stormwater Sampling 
• Phase II Environmental Site Assessments 
• Verify public and private utility locates have been completed and are appropriately marked before performing any work
• Setup job, complete load lists, and perform on-site work
• Assist with subcontractor management, health & safety oversight, and paperwork
• Inspect and perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles
• Identify potential sources of contamination when working on a job site
• Provide labor support to Operations & Maintenance (O&M), and Remedial Construction as needed 
• Provide support on Renewable Energy projects  Perform general contractor oversight of small scale (<2 days) projects. 
• Accurately prepare field documentation based on project specific requirements
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); some activities performed in Level C PPE with respirator(s)
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
• Learn job-related material primarily through verbal instruction, training, and observation in an on-the-job setting
• Skills in time keeping and appropriate billing 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education: B.S. in geology, environmental science, or related field OR a high school diploma or equivalency and some construction or labor experience

Recommended Experience: 0 – 1 year of experience in environmental consulting

Skills: Strong computer and verbal/written communication skills are a must

Certifications: (Beneficial but not required prior to employment) 40-hour Hazardous Waste Site Operation (HAZWOPER), First Aid (FA)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), 10-hr Construction, Asbestos Inspector/Management Planner, Respiratory Fit Test/Protection, and Confined Space Entry certifications 

Additional requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and physically capable of operating vehicles safely. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather and meet the physical requirements of the job.

JOB CONTEXT

90% field/site visit travel (environmental job hazards), 10% office (controlled environment)

This classification requires travel to various project locations. Travel involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer workdays; and extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long-term remote assignments can be required. Positions averages 4 hours of paid over-time per week with start times of 5 – 8 am (depending on location). More overtime (including weekend work) may be required depending upon project demand. Some assignments require intermittent 24 hour on call duty.
