About the position

We identify high-value sites, work with landowners and local communities to develop them, and partner with long-term asset owners to bring the most impactful clean energy projects to life. New Leaf Energy, Inc. is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer to join our growing interconnection team. Our ideal candidate will have experience in power systems and an in-depth understanding of how distributed generation interacts with existing distribution and sub-transmission systems. You will have a lead role in New Leaf Energy's Transmission Prospecting campaigns and will work closely with internal stakeholders from the interconnection, project development, and Finance teams to identify potential PV sites, help define prospecting strategy, and perform transmission analysis for New Leaf Energy's Projects. Externally, you will work collaboratively with 3rd party consultants, utility and ISO engineers, and other industry professionals to advocate for New Leaf Energy's Utility Scale Portfolio. You will also evaluate utility study deliverables and provide guidance to the development team on project changes and opportunities to leverage available capacity.

Responsibilities
• Serve as regional Planning Engineer for multiple ISO territories
,
• Provide guidance to developers by helping them navigate the Transmission network to identify system capacity and optimal locations to Interconnect projects
,
• Develop Transmission Network Models using PSSE, TARA, or other similar tools
,
• Perform Transmission System analysis such as Power Flow, Stability, Reactive Power Compensation, etc.
,
• Evaluate utility impact studies with the ability to challenge study methodology where appropriate
,
• Assist project developers in the evaluation of potential Project sites to determine project feasibility and potential network upgrades and cost
,
• Exhibit knowledge and understanding of T&D protective relay schemes.

Requirements
• 3+ years of Power Engineering Experience with the desired specialty in Transmission Planning
,
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or relevant study; MS preferred
,
• Strong understanding of Transmission System impacts associated with the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DER)
,
• Ability to successfully lead strategic initiatives in a fast-paced and challenging team-based multi-stakeholder environment
,
• Experience with power systems modeling software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, PSLF, SKM/ETAP, Aspen, etc.
