Colorado State University is seeking an Energy Management & GHG and STARS Data Specialist to lead sustainability initiatives, manage greenhouse gas inventories, and coordinate STARS reporting. This temporary hourly position allows for remote work, with occasional in-person meetings required. Description of Work Unit

The Colorado State University President’s Sustainability Commission has the important role of providing the President and Executive Leadership Team a variety of perspectives on sustainability from an environmental, economic, and social justice lens.

Mission Statement: Promote and facilitate the effective integration of sustainability across all aspects of the University.

Goals
• Advocate for sustainability efforts across the University and empower students, faculty, and staff to propose and pursue new ideas and initiatives to advance sustainability
• Advise and lead university-wide sustainability initiatives including but not limited to STARS, master planning, learning outcomes, budgets, campaigns, community and public partnerships, and new buildings
• Help connect sustainability efforts across the University (including academics, research, operations, student engagement, administration, and public outreach).
• Utilize STARS as a framework to help measure progress and develop and maintain a University-wide Sustainability Strategic Plan that feeds into and supports the CSU Strategic Plan
• Report the Campus Greenhouse Gas Inventory annually and update the Climate Action Plan biannually

Position Summary

The President’s Sustainability Commission (PSC) at Colorado State is seeking a seasoned professional to lead energy management projects and contract solicitations, complete the University’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory (GHG), and coordinate Operations credits for CSU’s STARS report.

This position is remote with in-person meeting and events scheduled as needed so candidate must be able to come to the CSU main campus as needed. Candidates must be available on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 3:30-4:30 p.m. to attend the CSU STARS Team meetings.

Position Minimum Qualifications
• Minimum five years of experience calculating GHG inventories for universities or large organizations
• Minimum of five years of experience managing complex solar and renewable energy agreements and contracts to include solicitation, purchasing and legal requirements, contract review, approval, and selection processes
• Experience completing the Operations Credits for a STARS 2.2 Platinum or Gold report
• Experience writing and updating a Climate Action Plan for a university or large organization

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience leading energy management and/or sustainability teams
• Demonstrated commitment to the CSU Principles of Community

Strategic Planning and Project Development

A. In collaboration with the Sustainability and Energy Management (SEM) Team, manage the Virtual Net Metering solar project for CSU campuses served by Xcel Energy.
B. Develop the solicitation with the SEM team and help select the wind power partner for the Eastern Colorado Research Center.
C. Advance the District Energy Conversion proposal by engaging stakeholders, identifying funding pathways, and serving as a member of the PSC’s District Energy Conversion
Financing Work Group.

Energy and Water Efficiency Project Management

A. Work with the SEM Team to identify and prioritize problems/opportunities, coordinate strategy, and identify partners for energy and water efficiency projects
B. Assist Facilities Management and P3 Partners in navigating CSU contract requirements related to baseline energy and water use in P3-operated buildings
