POSITION PURPOSE: The Principal Energy Markets & Sustainability Analyst is a key part of the management team responsible for providing energy consulting support and maintaining good working relationships with all customers.

Core elements of the role are providing energy market advisory services to clients with a focus on: a) energy market fundamentals that will impact forward energy market pricing and volatility; b) supporting transactions to buy / sell physical energy or virtual renewable energy power purchase agreements; c) understanding and communicating impacts of state & federal regulatory affairs that will impact client energy costs; d) providing tactical advice on physical energy flows for natural gas and power (e.g. pipeline nominations, transmission congestion credits, etc.); e) negotiation and recommendations for renewable power purchase agreements that are either physically or financially settled; and f) acting as the primary point for bi-weekly energy research publication that is created by the Veolia Energy Markets team.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
• Directly reporting to Vice President of Energy Markets
• Exceptional understanding of energy markets and corporate energy procurement strategies with a strong ability to synthesize complex rules for different North American energy markets into a cohesive message for customers. Familiarity with CAISO, MISO, ERCOT, NYISO, and ISO-NE markets is highly desirable, demonstrating your ability to navigate complex energy markets.
• A profound grasp of supply and demand dynamics, policy/regulatory frameworks, market intricacies, and financial metrics that underpin successful project development.
• A proven track record of 3-5 years in the utility-scale renewable energy industry, with a minimum of 2 years dedicated to utility-scale solar projects. Your experience should encompass various facets, including development, origination, permitting, interconnection, engineering, procurement, construction, due diligence, and financial analysis.
• Structure and negotiate Power Purchase Agreements that are both physically settled (PPAs) and financially settled (VPPAs) for industrial-scale and on-site wind or solar projects for C&I clients
• Lead/support client engagements with a focus on sustainability and decarbonization strategy development, including net-zero goals and Science Based Targets (SBTi)
• Defining ideal energy product specifications for customers and obtaining pricing from relevant qualified suppliers as part of facilitating energy market supply transactions between clients and energy suppliers
• Provide financial guidance to customers as part of peer reviews of capital infrastructure and related energy proformas.
• Provide recommendations to clients on market movement and trends - both with forward and spot power and gas energy markets across different energy markets within North America
• Facilitating decisions with clients regarding the optimal energy product to be procured - including decisions of buying cash/spot or fixed positions, contracting term, and other details defined within an energy supply contract.
• Providing annual budget support for client accounts to include both firm energy positions, regulatory based costs for utility delivery, and unhedged energy positions.
• Provide clients with insights regarding the impacts of market movements with financial models (e.g. Cash Flow at Risk CFaR)
• Provide clarity on costs and changes that can be seen with respect to regulated utility delivery costs and tariffs.
• Provide mentoring and training to junior team members, as they execute project delivery under the direction of the Principal Energy Markets and Sustainability Analyst.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background
• BS/BA required preferably in Business, Math, Accounting, Engineering, or relatable field.
• Proven track record of 8+ years of energy market experience with customer facing energy market consulting roles with a deep understanding of relevant regulatory policy and market intricacies that will impact both the strategy and recommendations to end-use clients on the purchase of forward power, natural gas, or renewable energy.
• Experience with Microsoft tools such as Excel, MS Access, and SQL,
• MS/MBA preferred.

• Great PC and Microsoft Office skills, strong Excel, Word, and Access skills required.
• Strong analytical/problem solving skills required.
• Attention to details and ability to review materials for accuracy.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong telephone etiquette.
• Ability/flexibility to learn and apply new skills.
• High level of professionalism and integrity.

Required Certification / Licenses / Training
• Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is preferred.
