About the Role

As an Energy Markets Analyst, you will provide critical insights into electricity and gas markets, supporting trading strategies and portfolio optimisation. You will develop financial models, monitor market movements, and assess regulatory impacts to enhance risk management and operational performance. This role is pivotal in informing decision-making for wholesale market activities.

Key Responsibilities
• Analyse wholesale energy markets, including electricity, gas, and environmental products, to support trading and risk management decisions.
• Develop quantitative models for price forecasting, supply-demand analysis, and portfolio optimisation.
• Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and industry developments to provide strategic insights.
• Support trading desk operations by delivering real-time market analytics and scenario modelling.
• Conduct risk assessments and evaluate market exposure to ensure effective portfolio management.
• Optimise hedging strategies by analysing contract positions and trading opportunities.
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management and key stakeholders.
• Assist in the development of trading strategies that align with corporate risk appetite and market conditions.
• Collaborate with internal teams across finance, regulatory affairs, and operations to ensure alignment on energy market strategies.
• Contribute to the automation of market analytics and reporting tools to improve efficiency.
• Support compliance and reporting obligations for energy market participation.
• Engage with industry bodies, regulatory agencies, and market participants to stay ahead of policy changes and emerging trends.

Skills & Experience
• 3-5 years of experience in energy markets, trading analysis, or portfolio optimisation.
• Strong understanding of electricity and gas markets, market regulations, and trading dynamics.
• Proficiency in quantitative analysis, financial modelling, and statistical forecasting.
• Hands-on experience with market data platforms and analytical tools (e.g., Python, SQL, VBA, MATLAB, or R).
• High attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex market data and translate it into actionable insights.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage with senior stakeholders.
• Tertiary qualification in economics, finance, engineering, mathematics, or a related discipline.
