AECO Energy Group is seeking an Energy Market Analyst for their Brisbane or Melbourne office. The role involves managing environmental commodities, conducting market analysis, and supporting tender preparations. Candidates should have a strong background in renewable energy markets and electrical engineering. The position requires strategic thinking and collaboration with various teams to ensure operational excellence and compliance in the Australian energy market.
The Opportunity
Are you a strategic thinker with a strong background in the renewable energy markets? We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Energy Market Analyst to join our leading energy business in either our Brisbane or Melbourne office. If you have the expertise and passion for energymarkets, then we have an exciting opportunity for you! This role offers an exciting opportunity to blend strategic sourcing, engineering expertise, and operational support for retailer relationships. The ideal candidate will drive innovation, ensure operational excellence, and maintain robust tender response capabilities for both energy usage and environmental commodities using Mercury, while keeping the sales team informed of evolving market trends and retailer dynamics in the Australian market
The Role
As an Energy Market Analyst at AECO Energy, you’ll play a pivotal role in the global sourcing, purchasing, redemption, and inventory coordination of environmental commodities while also preparing tender responses for both energy usage and environmental commodities. You will also play a critical role in providing data collation, analysis, and tender preparation support to the sales, account management, and settlements teams. A strong technical foundation in electrical engineering, a deep understanding of environmental commodity standards is essential. In addition, the role provides essential support to the National Operations Manager in managing AU retailer relationships and operational matters.
Reporting Line
▪ The Energy Market Analyst is a hybrid role, based in either Brisbane or Melbourne, Australia.
▪ Reports to the ESEM Team Leader.
Key Responsibilities
1. Environmental Commodities Management
▪ Group Sourcing & Purchasing
✓ Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure quality environmental commodities that meet regulatory and customer requirements, with a focus on the Australian market.
✓ Collaborate with finance and legal teams to ensure cost-effective procurement and contractual compliance.
▪ Redemption & Inventory Coordination
✓ Coordinate with the Team Leader to manage and update the inventory of environmental commodities using Mercury, our in-house inventory and management system.
✓ Develop strategies to optimize the commodities portfolio and mitigate risks associated with expiry and market fluctuations.
▪ Market Analysis & Reporting
✓ Monitor market trends, pricing, and regulatory changes for environmental commodities.
✓ Prepare regular reports detailing inventory levels, financial performance, and redemption outcomes to inform strategic decisions.
2. Engineering & Tender Support
▪ Data Collation and Analysis
✓ Gather and analyze customer energy usage data to support the production of accurate energy tenders.
✓ Develop and enhance spreadsheet models to forecast energy demand and usage patterns, ensuring alignment with customer needs.
▪ Tender Preparation
✓ Assist in the creation and submission of new and renewal energy tender requests to retailer partners.
✓ Prepare comprehensive tender responses for both energy usage and environmental commodities, ensuring all technical, commercial, and regulatory requirements are met.
✓ Model customer energy usage where necessary to ensure competitive and compliant tender proposals.
▪ Internal Support & Administration
✓ Provide office administration services that support timely and accurate service delivery to customers.
✓ Maintain Engineering ISO documentation and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards, company policies, and workplace health and safety measures.
3. Retailer Relationship & Operations Support
▪ Support to National Operations Manager
✓ Collaborate closely with the National Operations Manager to manage AU retailer relationships, ensuring effective communication and alignment with operational standards.
✓ Liaise between retailer partners and internal teams (sales, engineering, and operations) to address issues, optimize tender delivery processes, and maintain strong retailer engagement.
✓ Assist in resolving operational challenges and ensure all retailer-related activities meet contractual and service level requirements.
▪ Market Intelligence & Communication
✓ Develop a deep understanding of retailer operations, trends, products, and regulatory changes.
✓ Proactively communicate these insights to the sales team, ensuring they are equipped with the latest market intelligence to tailor customer proposals and tender responses effectively.
4. Process Improvement & Compliance
▪ Continuous Improvement
✓ Evaluate current systems and processes, recommending and implementing improvements to maintain a competitive technological advantage.
✓ Work with IT, compliance, and risk management teams to refine procurement, inventory, and tender preparation processes.
▪ Standards & Safety
✓ Ensure all tasks are performed in accordance with legal and statutory requirements, company policies, and workplace health and safety measures.
✓ Commit to “The Power Choice Way” by upholding best practices and ethical standards across all responsibilities.
Qualifications
▪ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field. Advanced qualifications (e.g., MBA or Master’s in Renewable Energy) are an advantage.
▪ At least 5 years of experience in renewable energy procurement, commodities management, or a related role.
▪ Demonstrable experience in providing engineering support, particularly in analyzing energy usage and tender preparation.
▪ Experience in managing global sourcing initiatives and supporting retailer operations in a dynamic market.
▪ Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite with excellent keyboard and mouse dexterity.
▪ Experience in developing and using spreadsheet models for data analysis.
▪ Advanced literacy and numeracy skills with the ability to model and forecast energy demand.
▪ Familiarity with proprietary inventory management systems is essential; experience with Mercury is highly desirable.
▪ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
▪ Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-skilled team, manage changing priorities, and deliver tasks within set deadlines.
▪ Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
Working Conditions and Environment
▪ The role may require occasional travel to meet with suppliers, attend industry events, and support retailer and internal team engagements.
▪ Adherence to the Company’s quality system (ISO 9001) and workplace health and safety measures is mandatory.
