National Energy System Operator (NESO) are now looking for a RESP Whole Energy Forecasting Analyst
, to be part of our growing Regional Energy Strategic Planning (RESP) team. This exciting role will allow you to play a crucial role leading the development of our approaches to whole energy regional pathways modelling and analysis, working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. You will model and analyse demand and supply scenarios at distribution level, across electricity, gas, hydrogen and across different sectors such as heat, transport, industry, consumer.
You will play a key role developing transparent consistent assumptions with industry experts and lead inputs into the RESP methodology. As an analyst, you will build up an understanding of different parts of the energy industry conduct research and analysis and explain results to stakeholders.
This RESP Whole Energy Forecasting Analyst position will be a highly visible role within the National Energy System Operator (NESO) as well as in the wider industry, giving you an opportunity to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
Key Accountabilities
• Conduct the modelling and analysis required to develop regional whole energy supply & demand pathways across specific sectors e.g. (heat, transport, industry, consumer). This will involve working with cross-functional teams to agree assumptions and approaches, and then conducting the studies required.
• Lead development of forecasting approaches and consistent assumptions with energy experts across at least two sectors such as (heat, transport, industry, consumer).
• Develop new processes to create regional whole energy pathways from a wide range of local energy datasets, ensuring coherence with national plans and providing inputs into the RESP methodology.
• Lead engagement with external stakeholders through bi-laterals, technical working groups and workshops to inform your modelling, analysis and processes.
• Conduct energy industry research to stay abreast of emerging analysis & modelling techniques and assumptions, applying these to whole energy analysis.
• Build relationships with other NESO analysis/modelling teams and share best practice. Identify experts in specific types of studies and models and seek their advice to support complex projects.
• Provide guidance and training to other members within the team.

• A wide understanding of the energy sector, with experience of energy (Supply/demand) planning especially at Distribution network level across at least one energy vector e.g. (heat, transport, industry, consumer).
• Analytical skills:
Experience in analytical role(s) including the ability to think holistically across energy vectors to bring together a whole energy systems approach.
• Ability to undertake research using diverse sources, scope and prioritise which questions to answer and filter for important developments, including reading publications and policy papers, attending conferences, meeting and interviewing key stakeholders across different sectors of the economy, and keeping up to date with news on technological and social developments.
• Structured problem solver:
You excel in structured problem solving, with a focus on data-related challenges and solutions.
• Communication:
Experience of communicating with, and influencing, internal and external stakeholders. You can convey complex findings to non-technical stakeholders and translate data and analysis to inform decision making.
