Position Summary

As a Weatherization Crew Lead, you are responsible for supervising a team of Weatherization Specialists in the field. You will lead retrofit projects, coordinate tasks, ensure safety and quality standards are met, and mentor your crew in the application of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs). This role requires expert knowledge of weatherization practices, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage both people and projects effectively.

Minimum Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to/from the Harrisburg shop
• Working cell phone with a data plan
• Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills
• Consistent, reliable attendance and the ability to follow a structured schedule
• Ability to work year-round in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions
• Comfortable working in deteriorated homes, on roofs, and in confined spaces (attics, crawlspaces)
• Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, bend, reach, and crawl
• Proficiency with basic hand and power tools (e.g., drills, saws, nail guns)
• BPI Building Analyst Certification in good standing
• Experience mentoring or training field crews preferred

Key Responsibilities

Start of Day (Shop)
• Arrive at 7:30 a.m., Monday–Friday (occasional Saturdays may be available)
• Review job folders and provide clear daily assignments to the crew
• Ensure all required tools, equipment, and materials are loaded into work vehicles

On the Job Site
• Manage daily field operations and direct all on-site work
• Ensure the crew uses protective booties, drop cloths, and sheeting to protect customer homes
• Identify and communicate any safety hazards (e.g., gas leaks, exposed wiring)
• Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and enforce jobsite safety protocols
• Lead the crew in installing a variety of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs), including:
• Blown-in and dense-pack insulation (operate and maintain the Krendl machine)
• Weatherstripping and door sweeps
• Drywall installation and finishing
• Sealing air leaks and penetrations with foam and foamboard
• Fan installation and venting (kitchen and bathroom)
• Installing fiberglass batts in ceilings, crawlspaces, and basements
• Installing standard and hybrid water heaters
• Knob and tube wiring remediation
• Installing/replacing switches, outlets, and fixtures
• Running electrical wire in attics, walls, and crawlspaces
• Thermostat installation (standard and smart, low/line voltage)
• Installing baseboard heaters
• Installing and venting dryer ducts and hoods
• Insulating water and boiler lines
• Roof vent and boot installation
• Caulking windows and doors
• Performing blower door and combustion safety testing; documenting results
• Taking clear photos of completed work and ensuring site is cleaned upon completion
• Completing all job-related documentation accurately

End of Day (Shop)
• Guide your team through daily cleanup and next-day preparation
• Ensure all paperwork is accurate and submitted
• Unload vehicles and return tools/supplies to proper locations
• Clean vehicles, tools, and equipment
• Dispose of trash and recycle appropriately (water heaters, cardboard, etc.)
• Check in with the Weatherization Crew Manager to prepare for upcoming jobs
• Lead or participate in other shop tasks as assigned (e.g., maintenance, cleanup, equipment checks)

Safety Expectations
• PPE is provided and must be worn by all team members based on each task
• As Crew Lead, you are responsible for enforcing all safety protocols and reporting any incidents or concerns

This is a hands-on leadership role for individuals with strong technical skills, a commitment to energy efficiency, and a passion for coaching others. You’ll play a key role in delivering high-impact home energy upgrades while building a strong, safety-focused crew culture.
