The Energy & Climate Justice Organizer at Kentuckians For The Commonwealth is a full-time position focused on grassroots organizing for racial, social, economic, and environmental justice in Kentucky. About the position
The Energy & Climate Justice Organizer position at Kentuckians for the Commonwealth (KFTC) is a full-time role focused on grassroots organizing for racial, social, economic, and environmental justice in Kentucky. This position is open to candidates from various locations within Kentucky, with a preference for those in Lexington, Louisville, and Northern Kentucky. The organizer will work under the supervision of the Organizing Co-Director or Lead Organizer and will collaborate closely with the Rural Energy & Climate Justice Organizer. KFTC is a grassroots organization with a mission to empower communities to achieve common goals through organizing strategies that include leadership development, strategic communications, and grassroots fundraising. The organization aims to recruit, equip, and activate a network of 100,000 members and partners across Kentucky to dismantle systems of oppression and promote a just transition to clean energy. In this role, the organizer will engage in anti-racist and anti-colonial organizing, focusing on specific regions of Kentucky. Responsibilities include recruiting and supporting grassroots leaders, advancing a visionary policy agenda related to energy, land, and climate justice, and implementing organizing campaigns. The organizer will create opportunities for community members to grow as leaders in these areas, facilitate workshops, and represent KFTC in various alliances. The position requires a commitment to KFTC's vision and values, as well as a dedication to lifelong learning and collective action. The ideal candidate will have experience in grassroots organizing, fundraising, and a strong understanding of the political and energy landscape in Kentucky.
Responsibilities
• Recruit, support, and activate grassroots leaders in Kentucky for racial, economic, and environmental justice.

• Support KFTC's New Energy and Transition Committee to advance an anti-racist, anti-colonial policy agenda.

• Implement organizing campaigns related to energy, land, and climate justice.
,
• Create opportunities for community members to grow as leaders through workshops and coaching.
,
• Represent KFTC in key alliances related to just transition and climate justice.
,
• Contribute to organizational goals by centering anti-racist and anti-colonial principles.
Requirements
• No prior experience required, but 3 years of relevant experience is preferred.

• Strong analysis skills and organizational skills.
,
• Ability to communicate effectively and lead fundraising efforts.
,
• Experience in media relations and leadership roles.
Nice-to-haves
• Familiarity with Kentucky's political and energy landscape.

• Experience with Black & Indigenous led environmental justice movements.

• Knowledge of local, state, and federal political institutions relevant to climate policy.
