Job Description
NV Energy is seeking an Energy Analyst in Reno, NV, responsible for load research and forecasting for electric and natural gas demand. Key tasks include analyzing historical data, developing forecasts, and supporting regulatory filings. The role requires a Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience, or six years of experience without a degree. Strong analytical skills and knowledge of energy analytics practices are essential.
Responsibilities
Basic Purpose
Conducts various load research and forecasting efforts of the team. Supports the development, evaluation, and analysis of historical class load shapes and long-term electric load and natural gas demand (Local Distribution Company) forecasts necessary to maintain corporate planning, programs and regulatory filings (integrated resource plans and general rate cases). Ensure historical loads and forecasts properly account for distributed energy resources and new technologies and policies.
Performs interval data validation, compilation and analysis of hourly class load data, components of energy demand and load forecasts, and/or respond to requests from internal and external customers on key energy metrics. Performs historical comparisons to track energy performance and identify energy consumption trends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develops and reports results and/or recommendations of research studies that meet internal and external stakeholder needs.
• Analyzes, interprets and reports on data for purposes of formulating significant model inputs in load research and forecasting analytics projects.
• Analyzes and identifies trends in growth, sales and usage by customer class.
• Provides modeling and other analytical support to the unit's senior staff and internal stakeholders.
Assists with the administration of load forecasting and research projects to ensure successful outcomes, including the coordination with outside consultant participation if necessary. Contributes to the implementation of new research projects, applications and procedures based on corporate planning, strategies, and new regulatory developments.
Provides analytical support for state and federal regulatory proceedings. Responds to ad-hoc data requests from internal and external customers, including state regulatory agencies, and other inquiries supporting the historical class loads and long-term electric and natural gas demand load forecasts of the company.
Communicates project results and recommendations through reports and presentations. Assists in presenting findings to management and taking a proactive role in decision-making processes.
Coordinates cross-department information inputs and outputs. Provides quality review, tracking of deliverables and coordination with internal and external customers to improve the quality, common understanding and utilization of business information.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 2 years of related experience.
Candidates that do not possess a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 6 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Utility operations and energy analytics practices.
• Statistical modeling and forecasting methodologies.
• Various software programs to enable successful completion of assigned modeling, statistical, or reporting analytics projects.
• Energy markets, load research, forecasting concepts, statistical techniques, and/or best practices.
Demonstrated skills such as:
• Ability to create comprehensive reports and communicate insights effectively, maintaining high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, while meeting established deadlines.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to use oral and written communication to present results to individuals with varying levels of understanding of concepts is essential.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information regarding company information.
Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. No special physical demands required.
Compensation
Annual Salary: $78,500 (Min) to $92,300 (Mid); Up to 12% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
