Job Description
UNICEF is seeking an Emergency Specialist (Resilience Coordinator) for a 9-month position in Niamey, Niger. The role involves designing community resilience programs, conducting risk assessments, and providing technical expertise in disaster risk reduction and capacity-building. Candidates should have a Master’s degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience in high-risk environments. Strong communication skills in French are required.

For every child, the right to Resilience How can you make a difference? Under the supervision of the Deputy Representative Programmes, you as the Resilience Coordinator will play a central role in: designing and implementing community resilience programmes,
leading capacity-building initiatives,
conducting risk and vulnerability assessments.
You Will Provide Technical Expertise
On capacity-building and training,
identification of drivers of vulnerability,
mitigation strategies for disasters and shocks affecting children and women,
the development and testing of methods to strengthen community resilience. You will also represent UNICEF in technical, managerial, and strategic planning meetings with UN sister agencies, donors, government officials, and other key stakeholders at both central and decentralized levels.

Work Experience: At least 5 years of progressive professional experience in resilience, disaster risk reduction,
emergency preparedness and response, peacebuilding, and/or post-disaster recovery. Demonstrated field experience in complex, high-risk and/or conflict-affected environments.
Skills
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of resilience, DRR, climate change adaptation, peacebuilding, emergency preparedness, and capacity development.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of social sectors strengthening work supported by UNICEF
Ability to coordinate complex, multi sectoral, interagency programming
Ability to build effective working relationships in a fast-paced, multicultural, and multisectoral environment.
Strong analytical capacity and ability to grasp complex concepts and apply them operationally.
Proven ability to cultivate productive relationships with donors, partners, government, and other key stakeholders.
Ability to develop innovative solutions to challenging situations.
Resourcefulness, initiative, and sound judgement.
Language Requirements: Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English.
Desirables Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) or a local language
In-depth knowledge of the Sahel region;
experience in Niger is a strong asset.
Experience with the UN systems is considered as an asset. Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
