Electronic Technician Supervisor
About this position
This position is located in District 61/Unit 751/East Baton Rouge Parish of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Transportation Operations Manager. The overall function of this position is supervising and performing all functions and duties of the Electronic Technician Advanced at the Supervisory level overseeing, instructing and training Electronic Technician Trainee, Electronic Technician and Electronic Technician Advanced on a direct basis. Performs more complex, technical or highly skilled tasks with electronic controllers. Evaluates employees in job performance, approves leaves, evaluates safety procedures, check daily signal reports, also keep records to finish annual inspections for audit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience or training in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR
Four years of experience or training in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software); OR
Possession of a CompTIA A+ Certification plus one of the following:
1. Three years of experience in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR
2. Three years of experience in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software).
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in electronics or computer science will substitute for one year of the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with marine and aviation transmitting equipment or with radar.
Function of Work:
To supervise the maintenance and repair of all makes and types of office machines, electronic and mechanical equipment, electronic communications, and television systems.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
60% Supervises and performs all functions and duties of Electronic Technician Advanced at the Supervisory level overseeing, instructing and training Electronic Technician Trainee, Electronic Technician and Electronic Technician Advanced on a direct basis. Performs more complex, technical or highly skilled tasks with electronic controllers. Evaluates employees in job performance, approves leaves, evaluates safety procedures, check daily signal reports, also keep records to finish annual inspections for audit. Uses computer to access e-mail for job related information, also finding vendors and electrical parts. Oversees, installs, updates, and modifies most complex components and systems to equipment and check for proper operation of microcomputer controlled traffic signals. Office computers are used for maintaining signal files for signalized locations throughout the District. Computers are used to monitor signalized intersections and video equipment/ facility automated systems through means of fiber/ communication equipment to monitor conditions or make changes when required. Laptop computers are used in the field to setup video cameras and detection zones, transferring data and maintaining signal files as well. Makes programming changes to electronic traffic signal controllers. Maintains signal interconnect communication systems. Construct traffic signal heads with wiring and L.E.D. indications. Installs and maintains video cameras and electronic controls through computer software which monitors traffic signals for the detection and presence of vehicles. Oversees preventive maintenance operations as required, including transportation equipment on a periodic basis. Consult with administrative officials regarding acquisition of new equipment or modifications of traffic signals. File and maintain traffic signal work orders in case of possible testimony on traffic signal history and operation. Maintains traffic loops at intersections which consist of preparing loop repair reports which are reviewed by the Traffic Engineer. Marks and paints roadway for contractors to install new loops. Inspects contractors work on loops that need repair.
30% Makes repairs and/or replacement of electronic and electrical/mechanical components needed to ensure correct signal operation. Erect electronic signal cabinets. Makes inspections to determine the need for repairs and to estimate cost of repairs. Requisitions materials and updates the files cost, time records for all projects. Initiates and implements training programs for subordinates, also in-service training for subordinates. Provides guidance for private contractors on circuitry layout of buildings and facilities. Directs and trains helpers and supervise entire Electrical Personnel. Supervises the performance of advanced journeyman level in the installation and maintenance of marine electrical systems (ferry landings, Movable and stationary bridges) and related equipment. Supervises the installation and repairs of marine distribution cables Oversees installation of electrical equipment such as motors, switches, lighting three phase electronic monitors for electrical protection, high and low voltage transformers with 7200 volts and lower also adjust voltage, plus maintains this equipment. Oversees the maintenance, dismantling and repairing of generators. Supervises the repairs and installation of electrical limits for locking systems with wedges and barriers to ensure safe Marine and Vehicle transportation. Maintains, repairs and installs electrical and electronic systems on pump stations, electronic monitor of motors. Monitors Expressway pump station programs for generator operation and system checks, and all maintenance repairs. Constructs and maintains new electrical services for generators and uses standard electrical tools and equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, meggers, wattmeters and recording instruments to locate and correct electrical problems. Supervises the repairs on bridge hydraulic systems such as pumps, cylinders, hoses, filters, and control valves. Repairs and directs personnel to replace air conditioning units (window and central units) also maintain chillers with refrigerants. Draws, interprets, updates and files electrical blueprints. Also records, keeps electrical maintenance forms during annual inspections on buildings and grounds for annual audits. These duties require being on 24-hour standby.
5% Supervise, instruct personnel, inspect and maintain records of repairs and finding of the navigational and aviation lighting on the bridges with your district. Ensures that the lights are inspected on a monthly for defects and electrical or fixture issues. Maintain records of the inspection and submit copies of the reports to his supervisor and the District Traffic Engineer for review. May be required to climb structures to a minimum of 200 ft.
5% Will be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
