Job Description

Ocean Wise Conservation Association is seeking an Educator to deliver conservation-focused educational programs for youth and communities. The role involves both in-person and virtual programming, supporting ocean literacy and sustainable practices. Candidates should have relevant education or experience in environmental education and strong communication skills. This is a full-time position based in Vancouver, BC, with a hybrid work environment allowing for remote work when not delivering programs.
Position Overview

Salary: $48,600 Annually

Education Required: Relevant education in environmental education, marine science, or related field, or equivalent experience

Experience Required: Experience delivering educational or interpretive programs for youth and communities

Description

Ocean Wise Conservation Association works to protect and restore ocean health through science, education, and conservation action. The organization delivers programs that build ocean literacy, promote sustainable practices, and connect communities with marine ecosystems across Canada and beyond.

The Educator supports Ocean Wise’s Youth & Education initiatives by delivering engaging conservation-focused learning experiences for students and communities. Programs are presented both in-person and virtually, including outreach through the Ocean Wise Sea Dome. The role combines program delivery, logistical support, and educational innovation to make ocean literacy accessible to diverse audiences across British Columbia and other regions.

Responsibilities
• Facilitate in-person and virtual ocean education programs for diverse audiences
• Travel with the Ocean Wise Sea Dome to deliver educational programming across British Columbia and other regions
• Provide customer service and communication support for teachers, event organizers, and participants
• Assist with program logistics including scheduling, booking confirmations, and follow-up communications
• Maintain program equipment, marine specimens, and educational resources
• Track participant numbers and feedback for reporting and program evaluation
• Collaborate with team members to refine and improve educational content
• Adapt educational programs for diverse audiences including remote or underserved communities
• Demonstrate and uphold Ocean Wise safety standards and emergency protocols
• Support organizational efforts to reduce environmental impacts through sustainable practices

Minimum Requirements
• Experience in environmental education, interpretive programming, or related fields
• Experience delivering hands-on educational programs for youth
• Knowledge of experiential and environmental education practices and ocean conservation topics
• Strong public speaking and communication skills
• Ability to engage audiences of diverse ages and backgrounds
• Ability to work collaboratively within small teams
• Valid British Columbia driver’s license and ability to drive fleet vehicles
• Standard First Aid certification or willingness to obtain after hiring
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and administrative tools
• Familiarity with video conferencing platforms

Preferred Qualifications
• Coding or programming experience
• French language proficiency and ability to deliver programs in French

Additional Notes
• Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
• Hybrid work environment with remote work when not delivering programs
• Full-time position with a typical work week of 37.5 hours
• Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Travel required, including extended trips up to four weeks
• Role includes driving, lifting equipment up to 20 kilograms, and extended periods of standing or speaking
