Job Description
The Educational Designer position at UNSW requires a full-time commitment based in Kensington, NSW, Australia, with on-campus work three days a week. The role involves collaborating with academic staff to design and implement innovative educational strategies and curricula, focusing on skills mapping and stakeholder engagement. The position is fixed-term until December 2026, offering a salary range of $110,073 - $119,132 plus superannuation.

Why The Role Matters
The Education Designer plays a key role within Arts, Design & Architecture and will work in partnership with the Project Team and the ADA Education Portfolio to deliver a designated project on mapping skills in a higher education context. This will be achieved through comprehensive stakeholder engagement, skills mapping, and iterative co-design processes, ensuring the development of essential and enduring human capabilities that meet current and future industry and government needs.
The Educational Designer is responsible for supporting the design, development, implementation and evaluation of key educational and strategic activities relating to this project. The role entails collaborating closely with academic and professional staff to provide advice, development and support in delivering project outcomes. This work will include engagement with programs and courses, provision of advice and technical support/delivery on the design, creation, evaluation and development of engaging educational platforms and content, instructional strategies, learning activities, assessment and feedback strategies, and the creation of engaging and supportive multimodal learning experiences and platforms to capture learning outcomes and evidence.
Accountabilities

• Work collaboratively with academics to develop undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum, incorporating effective delivery strategies in engaging and accessible content formats, curriculum mapping, aligning learning activities, assessments and feedback.
• Design and develop quality online learning activities, modules, programs and courses in collaboration with academic staff, using proven pedagogical learning and teaching strategies to ensure improved learning and teaching outcomes in the Faculty.
• Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders through consultation and provision of advice on teaching planning and activities, toward developing and implementing innovative teaching strategies.
• Assist in the design and development of course curriculum, providing Faculty-specific Technology Enabled Learning and Teaching (TELT) support, working alongside subject matter experts / specialists to achieve desired outcomes.
• Develop and manage effective communications with key stakeholders, both internal and external to the project.
• Collaborate with academics, project teams, and BAU learning and teaching staff to ensure the project is aligned with broader UNSW educational strategy and policy.
• Provide advice and contributing to the co-design of future educational development initiatives within the project.
• Support the facilitation of workshops, training, and communities of practice to build capacity in skills-based curriculum design across UNSW.
• Work with the project team to design a framework for digital badging and credentialing that integrates with institutional and national employability initiatives.
• Ensure digital badges and skills recognition strategies align with best practices in learning design, accreditation, and professional recognition.
Skills And Experience
To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

• Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
• Demonstrated experience in development contribution to curriculum/program/course design and digital content/resources, including web-based learning management systems.
• Demonstrated experience working in an academic learning & teaching environment or equivalent.
• Sound understanding of key learning theories and pedagogical practices in relation to emerging educational technologies and/or digital transformation.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to exercise initiative and to be adaptive and innovative in developing and pursuing pedagogical solutions; together with a service orientation and with a “client-customer” focus.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
