Job Description

Wetland Studies and Solutions is seeking an Ecosystem Restoration Intern in Gainesville, VA. The role involves outdoor work focused on invasive plant management, wetland maintenance, and environmental consulting. Candidates should have a strong interest in wetland ecology and physical stamina for rigorous tasks. Responsibilities include monitoring wetland sites, data collection, and operating various tools. A driver's license is required, and applicants should be pursuing a degree in Environmental Science or a related field.
About the position

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company, has an immediate need for an INTERN to join our Ecosystem Restoration team in Gainesville, Virginia . Projects will include invasive plant management, treating invasive terrestrial and aquatic vegetation, riparian corridor enhancement, pond and lake management, and Integrated Pest Management Plans. Applicants should be interested in and understand wetland ecology and possess a strong work ethic with the desire to gain experience in different aspects of environmental consulting. This internship involves a large amount of outdoor work with rigorous physical labor and may occasionally involve working long hours (>40) and/or traveling for several days at a time. The intern will also be expected to become a Virginia-Registered Technician Pesticide Applicator via a written test.

Responsibilities
• General maintenance and monitoring of wetland and stream mitigation sites
• Invasive species control
• Groundwater well data collection and analysis
• Stormwater Facility Maintenance
• LID/LEED building and landscape maintenance
• Read and follow maps, navigate (in vehicle and on foot) through a variety of terrains
• Properly and safely drive, operate and maintain vehicle in a variety of terrains and surfaces (including ATVs and boats)

Requirements
• Driver’s license and clean driving record
• Routinely lift items up to 25 lbs, occasionally lift items up to 50 lbs
• Work safely and independently in the outdoors under a wide range of conditions and weather types
• Power hand tool operation and maintenance (chain saw, string trimmer, walk behind mower, etc.)
• Occasionally travel regionally to support projects outside the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
• Work independently and with a team
• Plant identification skills

Nice-to-haves
• Working towards Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field or equivalent experience in a similar position
