Job Description
WILTSHIRE COUNCIL is seeking an Ecology Manager to lead a team focused on enhancing Wiltshire's natural environment. The role involves providing strategic direction, influencing policy, and ensuring sustainable development while collaborating with various stakeholders. Ideal candidates should have experience in local authority ecology roles and a strong understanding of planning systems. The position offers flexible working arrangements, including remote work options.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Ecology Manager to join our ambitious and forward-thinking Climate and Environment Service at Wiltshire Council.
Our Ecology team plays a vital role in protecting and enhancing Wiltshire's natural and historic environment. We are committed to restoring wildlife habitats, enabling nature recovery, and supporting sustainable, well-designed growth that benefits people, biodiversity, and the climate. From improving countryside access to safeguarding key ecological sites, our Service is shaping a greener, more resilient Wiltshire.
As Ecology Manager, you will lead a large team of ecologists and environmental specialists, providing expert advice and strategic direction across the Council. You'll represent the service at senior-level meetings and external forums, championing nature recovery and well considered sustainable development. This is a unique opportunity for a passionate leader to drive performance, influence policy, and deliver real impact for people and nature.
We're looking for an experienced Ecologist with a strong understanding of the planning system, particularly the role of ecology within local planning authorities. You'll bring in-depth knowledge of the Habitats Regulations, relevant case law, and strategic mitigation approaches to ensure development aligns with environmental legislation and best practice.
Ideally, you'll have experience in a similar role within a Local Authority. As the lead for policy and development, you'll be dynamic, self-motivated, and confident working with a wide range of stakeholders, cross-border authorities, and statutory bodies. You'll be a clear communicator, a natural problem-solver, and a collaborative leader.
We are talent-focused and offer a competitive salary, flexible working arrangements, and the opportunity to work from our stunning offices and from home. If you're ready to lead a high-performing team and shape the future of Wiltshire's natural environment, we'd love to hear from you.
