EnviroScience is currently seeking a seasonal Ecological Restoration Technician. This position will take an active role in a fast-paced environmental restoration team, implementing invasive vegetation control and native vegetation installation at the ground level. This is a strenuous field position that rewards passionate, entry-level environmental practitioners with essential restoration skills and experience.

The candidate will be required to perform a diverse range of tasks:

• Interpret and execute the vegetation management components of major restoration design plans.

• Identify and control invasive vegetation using various herbicide application methodologies including foliar, cut stump, and boom spraying.

• Identify, install, and protect native vegetation including seed, plugs, live stakes, shrubs, and trees throughout restoration project areas.

• Operate and service equipment including trucks and trailers, utility terrain vehicles (UTV), Argos (amphibious UTV), boats, skid steers, tractors, chainsaws, brush saws, and augers.

• Maintain daily records and assist in data collection via mobile GIS software.

This is predominantly a field work position working outside with a specialized restoration crew throughout the year. The candidate will be expected to work 8-to-12-hour shifts, 20-to-60-hours per week, including overnight and extended travel throughout the duration of the seasonal contract.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate would have a multidisciplinary background in botany, land stewardship, natural resource management, and environmental construction. This individual should be a creative problem solver, effective communicator of complex problems and their solutions, and care deeply about restoring habitat in Ohio and surrounding states. Being a dedicated, hands-on field position, the ideal candidate should look forward to working outside in all types of weather conditions and ecosystems including but not limited to wetlands, forests, and streams.

Qualifications:

• A valid driver’s license.

• Currently pursuing, or holding, a bachelor’s degree in an environmental science related field (Restoration Ecology, Conservation Biology, Botany, Forestry).

• An Ohio Department of Agriculture Commercial Applicator License in the categories of 3A, 4A, 5, CORE is preferred but not required.

• Ability to travel overnight.

Other Desirable Skills

• Experience with invasive and native vegetation identification.

• Experience with native plant installation or maintenance.

• Professional experience operating and servicing power tools including chainsaws, brush saws, and augers.

• Ability to trailer equipment including UTVs, Argos, boats, and heavy machinery.

• Experience with AutoCAD or GIS.
