Job Description

Sound Native Plants is seeking full-time Ecological Restoration and Green Infrastructure Field Technicians in Portland, OR. Responsibilities include native plant installation, habitat restoration, and maintenance of stormwater facilities. Candidates should be physically capable of manual labor and willing to learn about plant identification and equipment use. The position offers a starting wage of $20/hr, benefits like paid time off, and opportunities for advancement.
Sound Native Plants is hiring field technicians to join our Portland area team in support of native habitat restoration and green stormwater infrastructure maintenance. Field Technicians will work in small crews performing native plant installation, restoration / natural areas maintenance, maintenance of vegetated stormwater facilities, mobile data collection, herbicide treatments, brush cutting, and a wide variety of other restoration and maintenance activities.

Required Qualifications:

· Ability to perform physical labor continually for 8-10 hours per day in a variety of job tasks, including but not limited to lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., raking, digging, crouching, bending, standing, walking, and hiking off-trail over steep, uneven, and/or slippery terrain

· Be willing to learn to identify native and introduced plants

· Be willing to learn and employ safe and proper use of equipment and power tools

· Have reliable transportation to pickup locations or job sites

Desired Qualifications:

· Ecological restoration, landscaping, or horticulture experience

· Knowledge of native and introduced plants

· Strong preference given to candidates with experience in outdoor manual labor, planting, plant identification, herbicide application, and mobile data collection

· Background in botany, ecology, or environmental science

· Commercial pesticide applicator license (agriculture-herbicide, ornamental & turf-herbicide, and/or aquatic-pesticide categories)

Starting wage is $20.00/hr. The position is Monday – Friday on-call with weekly shifts averaging 36-40 hours per week, with occasional overtime. Opportunities for advancement occur regularly.

Additional benefits include 1 hour of paid time off for every 20 hours worked, paid holidays after 3 months of employment, reimbursement for work gear, and 401K with automatic 3% company contribution and profit sharing after 1 year of employment.
