The Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) Climate Impacts Group specializes in applying climate data—including in situ observations, remote sensing, and climate model outputs—to support decision-making across various impact sectors. The group’s primary focus areas include agriculture and food security, urban climate impacts, and ecosystem and wildlife protection.

Key Areas of Focus
• Climate Vulnerability & Extreme Events:
• Assess current climate vulnerabilities and the growing challenges posed by climate change.
• Decision-Support Tools & Modeling:
• Develop methods to translate climate model outputs into useful, actionable insights for decision-makers and impact sector models (e.g., Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP)).
• Integration of Remote Sensing & Forecasting:
• Utilize remotely-sensed data to monitor and predict the impacts of extreme events.
• Advanced Computing & Statistical Methods:
• Leverage high-performance computing and statistical techniques to enhance climate impact research.
