Job Description
The E Learning Intern at Smart Electric Power Alliance will assist in developing online courses on clean energy topics. Responsibilities include creating engaging content, supporting course development, and ensuring quality assurance. Ideal candidates are organized, have e-learning skills, and an interest in clean energy. This internship provides hands-on experience in instructional design and is suited for students or recent graduates in related fields. The position is based in Washington, DC.
The Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA), a 501(c)(3) organization with over 1,000 members, is dedicated to accelerating the transformation to a carbon-free electricity system. Focused on six critical focus areas including Resilience, Transportation, Energy Storage, Emerging Technology, Policy, and Energy Equity.

Position
The Online Learning Development Intern will be an active member of the SEPA team and will assist in developing interactive online learning courses on clean energy topics. The range of project topics may include, but is not limited to: renewables, energy storage, electric vehicles, demand response, utility business models, and utility regulation. Projects will be tailored to the intern’s specific research interests when possible. This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in instructional design, e-learning development, and clean energy education.
The ideal candidate will have Google Suite and general e-learning and course design skills, will be well-organized, and possess excellent communication skills. Experience or interest in working in the energy industry following graduation and knowledge of the energy industry is a plus.
Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the Manager of Online Programs to design and develop self-paced online courses on clean energy topics.
• Create engaging and interactive content using H5P, including quizzes, interactive videos, simulations, and other multimedia elements.
• Support course development by organizing content, editing materials, and formatting instructional modules.
• Assist with quality assurance by reviewing and testing courses for usability, accessibility, and functionality.
• Contribute creative ideas to enhance learner engagement and interactivity.
• Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree program in Education, Instructional Design, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
• Familiarity with e-learning authoring tools such as H5P or similar platforms is a plus
• Interest in clean energy, sustainability, or environmental issues.
