POWER Engineers is seeking a Mid-level Distribution Grid Modernization Engineer to reshape utility distribution systems. Responsibilities include project execution, technical guidance, and client collaboration on modernization programs. Candidates should have a BSEE degree and 5+ years of experience in electrical power delivery. This position allows for full-time remote work, with occasional travel to the office for meetings.

Distribution Grid Modernization Engineer – Mid level POWER Engineers, Member of WSP is seeking a Mid-level Distribution Grid Modernization Engineer. This position is posted in multiple POWER Engineers, Member of WSP office locations with the ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location (please note in the application questions where you prefer to be located). The candidate selected for this position may work remotely full-time at a location other than a POWER Engineers, Member of WSP-designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a POWER Engineers, Member of WSP office for periodic meetings. Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:As a Distribution Grid Modernization Engineer, your role is to help reshape the distribution system, so our clients can provide the power necessary for tomorrow’s needs. You will be executing project work for yourself and others. This will include the ability to effectively scope, schedule, budget, and lead projects. The role requires a level of knowledge to provide technical guidance to the team as well as work as partner with our clients to help them meet their needs. Daily activities can include client calls, actively engineering solutions, advising and mentoring other engineers, performing quality checks, developing processes, developing proposals, and other various project execution tasks.
• The qualified candidate will be responsible for the modernization of the utility distribution systems, this includes planning, justification, and on-going support of the following Distribution Grid Modernization Programs:
• FLISR (Fault, Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration)
• Volt-Var Optimization or other similar programs (IVVC, CVR)
• Distribution Resiliency
• ADMS (Advance Distribution Management Systems)
• Electrification of Transportation
• DER Solutions (DERMS, NWA/NWS, Dynamic Response, Hosting Capacity)
• Advance Planning Techniques (8760, Quasi Static Time Series Analysis)
• The ability to interact with a wide variety of people to obtain the required information needed for performance of electrical distribution system studies
• Leads and performs engineering tasks associated with a critical or analytical engineering project or a small number of complex projects that require specialized knowledge in many areas.
• Exercises authority and technical leadership on assignments that are often self-initiated and self-directed. Assignments are strategic and have significant long-term implications to achievement of overall business objectives.
• Track project schedules and budgets
• Participation in industry working groups or standards (IEEE, CIGRE, IEC, ANSI)
• Participation as a presenter in industry conferences
• Some travel should be expected
• Ability to supports other distribution disciplines such as Protection and Planning
Required Education/Experience
• A BSEE degree
• Registration as an Engineer in Training or Professional Engineer
• Five (5)+ years of experience in the electrical power delivery industry
• Demonstrated experiencing in Electrical Power System Analysis using one of the following software packages – CYME, Milsoft, or Synergi
• Must have a strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work in design teams, is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and take the initiative to learn new topics
Desired Education/Experience
• A MSEE
• Significant knowledge of the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV)
• Demonstrated advance modeling techniques internal to CYME, Synergi, or Milsoft or external programing/scripting
• Demonstrated PSCAD or other EMT software analysis for feasibility studies, system impact studies, reactive compensation studies, critical clearing time, stability (transient & dynamic), interconnection model development, power factor correction, and other related studies
• Demonstrated experience in ADMS Configuration, Testing, or support of a software package similar to one of the following– Schneider EcoStruxure, OSI Spectra, GE ADMS, or SurvalentONE
• Prior Experience supporting or within a Distribution System Operations Department
• Demonstrated Experience working on Pilot Projects from creation to completion
• Demonstrated Successful Change Management as part of Pilot Projects
• Foundational Knowledge of Utilities IT/OT Architecture
• Demonstrated industry participation in industry working groups, standards, conference presentations, or publications
• Experience with developing utility planning/program standards
• Experience with the integration of distributed generation within the planning process

Base Salary Range: $100k - $150kThe range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike.
