Job Description

Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking a Disaster Risk Reduction Expert in Seattle, WA. Responsibilities include facilitating hazard mitigation plan updates, developing adaptation plans, providing technical expertise, managing data sets, and conducting capacity-building activities. Candidates should have a Master's Degree in a related field and at least 3 years of relevant experience. The role requires a valid driver's license and involves up to 30% travel.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Facilitating DMA-2000 hazard mitigation plan updates for communities and counties
• Developing and coordinating input to a wide range of mitigation and adaptation plans
• Providing technical expertise in hazard mitigation and long-term resilience planning
• Managing large data sets and identifying mitigation projects to reduce natural hazard risk
• Conducting capacity building activities, including developing decision support tools, strategy development, and community engagement
• Supervising/mentoring junior planners and working collaboratively with clients and a team of professionals

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must possess a Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Sustainability, Climate Change, Resilience, Public Policy, or a related field, or equivalent experience. At least 3+ years of demonstrated knowledge of mitigation and resilience planning, land use/general planning, mitigation and adaptation strategy identification, risk assessment, climate hazards, federal/state funding mechanisms, federal and state climate, resilience, emergency management policies and programs, best practices, and standards is essential. Certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or working toward certification is a plus. A writing sample is required to be appended to your application. Experience developing plans in compliance with SB 379 and SB 747 is highly desirable. General planning experience including city comprehensive/general plans, community wildfire protection planning experience, and travel up to 30% are also essential. A valid driver's license is required.
