Job Description
JE Dunn Construction is seeking a Director of Sustainability for its Advanced Facilities Group in Kansas City, MO. The role involves developing and executing sustainability initiatives aligned with the company's ESG strategy, overseeing sustainability reporting, and collaborating with leadership to embed sustainability in operations. Candidates should have a relevant degree and extensive experience in sustainability, preferably in construction. This position is not remote and requires on-site presence.

JE Dunn's Advanced Facilities Group (AFG) encompasses Mission Critical, Advanced Industries, and Industrial & Manufacturing sectors into a dynamic team focused on cutting-edge projects for innovative clients. Role Overview
The Director of Sustainability will spearhead our sustainability initiatives, developing and executing our Sustainability plan aligned with our overall Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy. This critical position ensures adherence to relevant regulations and promotes continuous organizational improvement in supporting JE Dunn's vision and values.
Key Responsibilities:
Craft and implement an environmental strategy that resonates with the company’s mission and goals, collaborating with executive leadership. Establish policies, procedures, and metrics to measure sustainability progress, including A1-A5 carbon emissions lifecycle. Provide regular updates to the leadership team regarding sustainability performance and objectives. Gather consumption and carbon data, create a company carbon baseline, and report on the environmental and financial impacts of our carbon footprint. Utilize qualitative and quantitative climate-related scenario analysis to inform strategic initiatives. Partner with internal stakeholders and the Executive Leadership Team to embed sustainability within business operations and decisions. Evaluate environmental risks and opportunities, offering recommendations for risk management and business growth. Oversee sustainability reporting and disclosure, including the preparation of sustainability reports and related communications. Develop and execute training programs that enhance sustainability awareness throughout the organization. Maintain and implement an Environmental Management System. Monitor regulatory changes in ESG and ensure compliance with pertinent laws. Support project delivery as needed, focusing on sustainability strategy and reporting. Assist project teams in creating responses to RFPs concerning environmental and sustainability information and participate in client interviews as necessary. Engage with external stakeholders, including investors, customers, and suppliers, on sustainability issues. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, architecture, or a related field (Required); Master’s degree (Preferred). 10+ years of sustainability or environmental management experience, preferably in the construction industry (Preferred). 5+ years of experience leading cross-functional reporting relationships (Preferred). Advanced proficiency in communication, both verbal and written. Project management skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects. Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills. Ability to leverage Lean process and philosophy in operations. Thorough knowledge of relevant environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and reporting frameworks. Working Environment:
Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Occasional travel may be required. Willingness to work non-traditional hours to meet project demands. Exposure to extreme conditions (hot or cold) may occur. Work location may vary between project sites and the office. Frequent sitting and screen viewing, with occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting activities. Salary and Benefits:
The base compensation for the Director of Sustainability role in Minneapolis ranges from $158,000 to $198,000, depending on experience and may exceed this range for candidates with exceptional qualifications and a robust performance record. Additionally, this position is eligible for a performance-based bonus.
